That basted!

I HATE speed enforcement. We need faster traffic flow, not gridlock!

Not my safety. I never had any problem with speed. Cell phone idiots go unchecked. Left lane hogs go unchecked. Bad drivers go unchecked. Those are the three main safety issues right there, and this waste of taxpayer money doesn't address any of those major "safety" issues.

I know...preaching to the choir. You get it. NY doesn't!

As a lifelong Staten Islander, and very near future ex-Staten Islander and ex-New Yorker, I can personally attest to the prevalence of these dastardly devices. They are popping up everywhere and they are adding them daily. I'll drive a route one week and see one and the next week there are three. You drive past one and two traffic lights and 300 yards later there's another one. You pass one just prior to an intersection turn the corner and there's another just prior to the next light not 100 yards away. Oh, and they're operable from 6am to 10 every weekday including holidays and when school is out. "It's for school safety." Yeah, right! Fortunately they're usually easy to spot if you're paying attention, and they're well marked in waze and the escort live databases. I also find that the Escort Redline 360c does a pretty good job of catching the signal from MRCD/MRCT, not great but good enough. Remember folks, you get what you vote for. Think about it. Goodbye NY, goodbye!

If enough people complained to the "elected officials", you might get a change for the better. It's our job to let them know what we expect of them. If we don't do that, expect what you get.

This is happening all over the City. We talked about it in the other thread.

City exploded from 150 cameras to 750 allowable now.

Fleece the citizens, because, they can.

My understanding was that they are NOT in effect on holidays (i.e, when the school is closed)

Maybe the serving of meals is some way they can ignore that though, I don't know.

They are now operating year round including holidays - M-F from 6am-10pm. Also, they expanded from 750 and will have approx 2000 by the end of 2021.

Interesting.

AFAICT, this is the most current law in effect, and I see nothing even proposed which (as the article claims) would allow an increase to 2000 cameras, or anything other than the 750 we have now.

Further, IIRC, when Corona began, and schools closed, the City responded to media queries asking why the school cameras were still issuing violations by saying that they were still delivering meals between 10AM and 1PM and there was the possibility of humans trafficking the schools.

That said, early on, I triggered one camera deliberately after 8PM and never got a summons. There are several possibilities as to why.

I wouldn't trust anything the City puts out as "facts" btw. They lie and their studies are total bs, used to justify their stealing from citizenry, which you probably already believe as well.

... just to add )since the system won't let me edit again), I do realize the law I posted does not seem to preclude "non-school" days, despite my anecdote about the media releases during Corona by the City..

These things will not be going away anytime soon. The bicycle zealots and alternative transportation groups sole purpose for existence is to push for garbage like this. It's another tax to drive in the city plain and simple.

I'm just guessing here, but distracted driving with a cellphone is probably the cause of most collisions and accidents in the city now.

I can't count how many cams I added myself to Waze. Not to mention that near my job in Long Island City they chopped A LOT of the very very traffic heavy roads down to put in bike lanes which is FKN ridiculous..... The traffic is getting worse and worse!!

I don't know a lot about the tech, but,

1) Do none of the "crude" plate covers work anymore?
Like Invisi-shield, TollFree Protector, etc.? (putting aside the issue of getting stopped by a LEO, etc)

2) I don't usually drive very fast on highways so I could never justify the cost of a radar/laser detector, but don't those work by jamming the LEOs momentarily so the LEO can't measure?
Does the same tech work for these stupid stationary cameras? If so, maybe I'd have reason to invest in one.

I myself am a former NY now living the retirement life in FL but travel back and forth the speed cameras are crazy now but also added to my decision of buying the Redline 360c which seems to be out performing my R7 with the speed cameras in NY now with the new update to the R7 I'm going to see how it compares to my Redline 360c I've got to the point now when in NY I just switch my back plate to a Vanity Plate I had made they don't look at your plates no more when they write you a parking ticket they just scan print and go so just what I do when I'm in NY got tired of the tickets

For Leo's yes (laser only), but not for cameras since they are radar based.
