In seemingly no particular order they give:
V1G2
DFR7
R360c
R7
9500ix(?)
Pro M

I'd probably swap the R3 for the 9500ix, but I've seen much worse from mainstream sources. Descriptions are generally pointing in the right direction. DFR7 is listed as the budget pick, Pro M lauded for small size and stealth, R7 is "the most hardcore Uniden," etc.

But why??? Don't you know that the 9500ix has cutting edge AI built in??? 🙃

Overall, definitely not a bad showing by a mainstream publication. I still can't fathom why the ancient 9500ix is still so well-endorsed, considering it hasn't been relevant since before I was old enough to drive.

I pretty much lost respect for them after reading their opening paragraph:

"We don't encourage speeding, obviously, but if you're the type to cruise a few mph above the limit, we recommend having a radar detector onboard just in case."

What a bunch of wusses!

Isn't that their claim for the RL 360c? Or did the sarcasm go right over my head.:)

I read it as more the standard disclaimer for a big-name publication that doesn't want legal hassles. Usually they're meant to be read more like this:

"We don't encourage speeding, obviously, but if you're the type to cruise """a few mph above the limit,""" [wink wink, nudge nudge] we recommend having a radar detector onboard just in case."

Yeah, I get it! My rule: No apologies, no disclaimers, no way. But I sometimes put it like this: "Me no frego!"*

*Colloquially, "I don't give a damn!" in Italian.

^^^This. The 9500iX doesn't belong on anyone's list of best detectors in this day and age.

At one point around the RL360c launch when they began blatantly lying about their supposed "AI," their website also claimed that the 9500ix had AI filtering. It was comical, to say the least.

I’ll bet the only reason the Redline 360C is not on the list is because it isn’t being sold on Amazon by Escort yet. C&D only made that article for affiliate click sales.
This.

I don't looks on websites anymore for honest reviews. They're impossible to find. Reddit is my go to for non CM tech reccomendations.

Yeah, I immediately noticed the "BUY NOW" links. Maybe they can generate a few commissions. The whole article was click bait garbage

Personally, if I need CM advice I'll get it from here. I'll take real world test results from independent users any day over any magazine. As for the their assessment, can't really disagree too much aside from leaving out the R3 which is arguably one of the best RD's for the money.

The Redline 360C is on the list. The sale link for the 360C appears to be a direct link to Escort's site without any affiliate tracking. Or is this referring to some other list? Road and Track has the article in the OP.

The 9500ix is so cutting edge that I used one ten years ago. It was actually an OK (emphasis added) detector.....it provided lockouts of stationary falses and the ability to mark locations. It's Ka band performance was borderline terrible but it would provide a save in CO situations. On IO it was as quick as a castrated three-toed sloth on heroin. The BSM tsunami hit and the 9500ix became unusable. There is now no point in running one.....if you do not face K band and don't need GPS then an R1 will blow the 9500ix out of the water on Ka band. If you face K band, the 9500ix can't filter BSMs and another detector is needed. I'm surprised that Road & Track didn't mention the Max "3" although that article may have been written before the Max "3" was released.

The R1 belongs on that list well above the 9500ix!
