This is a question for any other ZR5 users out there. Last year when I updated the firmware I received notification that the update was successful. However, Detector Tools still lists the version as 1.0. Other posters on the Escort boards had mentioned that when they updated their wireless ZW5 system they saw that theirs was updated to version 1.1. Aren't these the same heads and shouldn't they be on the same version? If any of you have updated your shifters and know which version you're on I would be most appreciative. Thanks all!

I performed the update earlier this Spring but never notice the ver number. Today I reran the update to update all FW. This was only regarding the ZR5. Upon finishing the ver reads ver 1.0 So you have what I have but who knows how recent it is.

I have purchased two new set of ZR5, all are showing master version 1.0. I have also asked Support and was told that is the current version for ZR5. I also confirmed that ZR5 and ZW5 are functionally the same, the only difference being ZW5 requires a compatible detector to function while ZR5 can be used without detector.

The ZR5 are still at firmware version 1.0 as of today. The ZW5 are at version 1.1. This is due to them having received a firmware fix for bluetooth connectivity issues. Since the ZR5 are hardwired, they don't have the bluetooth chipset, and thus didn't need a corresponding fix.

  • ZR5 = hardwired, can be used standalone without an Escort detector
  • ZW5 = wireless, must be used with a compatible Escort detector

That explaines everything. Thanks for the info.
