The head of the NY City DOT was on TV stating that in 2021 they will have 2000 speed cams up and running in NY City. They are putting them up at about 60 per month.
So if your driving in NYC you will need a detector that can detect the MRCD signal and or have a data base with the locations of these speed cams. If your using a V1G2 you must run an app like WASE. For this reason I will not use my V1G2 in NY.

You really don't have to go very fast. Speed limit 25MPH on most streets unless other otherwise posted and they said they will be lowering the speed limit on many streets.

Oh, ok. I used to work in the city on park ave and that road was atrocious, same with Lexington. I also have an R7, so I think I’ll be alright if I ever drive in again.

No need for Park and Lexington. They are congested anyway. The sweet part is when you go to Queens or Brooklyn and get a 50 in a 25 zone.

A detector will not beat your eyes against those speed cams. If you see them in NYC pm me the exact location/direction of the cameras and I will add them to Waze. Members here reported good alerts with RCM/R7 and after a while the detector has suffered a lot and won't alert until you're in the kill zone.

Actually the city traffic is about 40 to 50% of what it was before the shut down. The DOT is on TV saying that the light traffic is why people are speeding. So they will lower the speed limit and install 2000 speed cams to slow drivers down. 2000 is a lot of speed cams. They see an easy way to get $$$ and there trying to raise the fine from $50 to 75 or 100. If you get 5 speed cam tickets in a one year period you have to take a safety cores that you have to pay for or they will suspend your registration. They don't care if someone other than the owner of the car was driving. I don't know if someone other than the owner can take the safety cores.

Yes my R7 & R3 detect the speed cam signal very well but if no one is in the kill zone ahead of you and the speed cam is NOT in the data base your dead meat. Uniden only updates there data base 2 or 3 times a year Escort updates every week. The Escort detectors give you a better chance against them.

I had my R7 which wasn't great with the MRCD so I went for the Redline 360c which seems to work well so far I've been getting the alerts about a block or 2 at most not more then that I'm sure it has to do with all the buildings trees houses and stuff but I always add them to the app when I see new ones pop up waze takes forever to post them when you report a camera not like a cop its right away the speed and red light cameras take weeks to show up on waze but escort live puts them right on so you know there real wish Uniden would come out with something like that for the R7 I'm waiting for Thursday to try it out and see how much of an improvement the update makes

Get yourself the Redline 360c it seems to work well I get atleast a block or 2 alert and I always post the new ones right on Escort Live i couldn't believe none of the cameras I was coming across weren't on waze or Escort live until I started to report them but waze takes weeks to update the cameras when you report them which is a waste you report a cop or anything else its right away the speed cameras or red-light takes weeks to show up which is worthless to people who depend on waze for that reason but with Escort live you'll find them I post them immediately once I see them so even if you pay for Escort Live one camera ticket and the app pays for itself at that point

Where is the money coming from to purchase 2000 of those devices, plus the techs and the backbone to connect them to their DB's ?

Answer: I drive a 4 Wheel Drive SUV.

I agree the roads are crap, problem I have is bumper to bumper traffic even at 10PM or they are always working on the roads yet never on the holes!

The money comes from the tax payers of NY and the fines they get from the speed & red light cams. They have no problem finding and spending money to fine and tax people. They ran trains & buses in NY state for weeks with about 20% of normal ridership. Now their broke and now they want everyone to bail them out. They stink!!

In NYC, I run my R3 with 1.53 firmware, TSF off, K filter Off and I’ve been getting a lot better alert distance with MRCT speed can then 1.50.

Excellent idea !
NY cops (and state troopers that have infested the city):

- Are stupid. They'll never, ever realize it's a vanity plate (because you're the very, very first one to have thought of this)
- Do not have plate readers connected to a bazillion of databases in real time.
- Are not usually waiting after tolls and other places, connected in real times to readers who can read a registration sticker (well, that one I'm not 100% sure about. Could be they just read plates as well).

You're safe, it's only Criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, a Class D felony - 1-3 to 7 years probation for a non-violent felony. You're good.

PS: Make your next plate "§ 170.25" :happyanim:
