When Theia is ready for sale later this year, are there going to be waves of them produced or is there expected to be a year's worth of stock at launch? If there are going to be multiple batches, are there going to be enough for the whole pre-order list (which is presumably still expanding) in the first batch? If not, how is the availability going to be determined for those on the list?

What list dude? There is no list. If you’re talking about the email notification thing, when you get the notice, you place the preorder and it’s first come first serve on that.

Yes, I meant the pre-order notification list. That's what I'm wondering, whether there will be enough initial stock to cover that entire group.

At $1k a detector, pretty sure they will have enough supply to cover the demand. This isn't like when the half the price V1 was unavailable for a year with a massive backlog of people looking to purchase a new detector or upgrade. Also, money is tight for a lot of folks right now due to Covid. So I would have to assume that anyone who wants a Theia will be able to snag one.

I don’t know man. I would think anyone that is a consumed enthusiast will figure out a way to find the money for what at least looks like on paper, to be by far the best counter measure device against police radar ever invented. If this thing is just half of what they say I would think it would dominate the detector market significantly over others for quite some time or until the other companies come out with the same type of device.

There is no denying the credentials of such a unit. I just simply think that a lot of folks will not coin up such money for it initially. There are 22k registered members on this forum. I doubt greater than 3% will purchase during the initial release.

Also keep in mind that many people who use detectors have never heard of Radenso. I have many friends who use or have used detectors and jammers, and all know who Valentine, Escort, and to some degree Cobra and K40 are. All of them, in the current state of the economy have the ability to purchase Theia, and probably will once I have it and show them. But none of them have ever heard of Radenso. They knew nothing of Uniden other than that they produced scanners and radios, until I demonstrated how potent the R3 was. And this is just my friends list, not associates. We enthusiasts are not representative of the masses.

I personally believe Radenso having released those several educational and brand awareness videos on youtube is a good thing.
Them showing up at Sema and maybe CES is a good thing. Them being active on these forums is a good thing. Any online magazine publications and sending out demo units to Youtubers like Matt Farah, MKBHD, Unbox Therapy, Car & Driver, Vortex would be a good thing.

Maybe I am over estimating the stock of Theia units Radenso will have during initial release. 1000 units at $3-400 parts and labor (speculating) to manufacture, plus R&D and ENG, tooling costs, marketing, etc probably means they won't be making a ton of money on each unit sale. So sitting on 1000 units is sitting on $1M usd. I don't know how much backing they have and don't want to speculate on that. Maybe you guys are right, it could go either way.

The plan is to have a first batch that is larger than normal to account for pent-up demand, with smaller monthly deliveries occurring afterwards. We will NOT have stock for an entire year up-front - no company does that as you would be carrying way too much inventory.

It's difficult to predict demand for something that has never existed before. We have a crazy number of people that have subscribed to the Theia-only email list, to the point where even if 10% of them order it will probably wipe out our first batch. But we are trying to be conservative and since it's free to sign up to that interest list, we are assuming the vast majority aren't really interested in purchasing.

It's possible that there will be enough Theias in stock at launch, but it's also possible that we under-forecast the initial demand. If that's the case, it will take a few months before stock is back up to acceptable levels since there is long parts lead time right now.

Talk about transparency from a vendor. This is how you avoid getting beat up on the forum later. Nobody expects proprietary information, just useful and honest info.

Amen. I'm guessing that most of us on the forum are already budgeting for this unit. I'm not sure that it will initially move as quickly as a new V1 or Escort product with the general public because those companies have brand recognition and a long history, but that's just a matter of time for Radenso if this product delivers. Meanwhile, if anyone has any ideas regarding how to hide a $1000 purchase from a spouse on a credit card, I'm open to suggestions!

Z06 fan,

I am taking the total transparency approach with my spouse. When she buys something for herself and she asks what I have bought for myself lately. My answer is that I don't need anything right now because I am saving up for a new Radar Detector and it's won't be cheap.

When I get a little extra $$$ in my paycheck I mention that I will put it in savings instead of buying something because I am saving up for Theia.

After almost a year of hearing this she knows it's not some snap decision on my part. I also bought some GC's to help my budget.

As I was writing this she called me to tell me that there are motorcycle cops shooting laser in the area and to be careful. I made a point to say "Thank you. My current detector doesn't do laser well at all".

I’m getting three of them to start . So just make sure there’s enough and I’m happy.

Why are you so utterly convinced the economy is shot? It is for the poor people that got laid off because of the stupid shut down but the rest of us who are working are doing awesome. Go try and buy a bicycle. Try to buy a new car. Everything is back ordered. Every private business I know that hasn’t had the foot of government on their throat making them shut down is thriving better than ever before. The luxury markets are busier than ever. Good luck buying a Rolex watch. You can’t. They are all sold out.

Now as far as only 3% of the people here buying one of these out of the gate that sounds crazy. This is a group of intense highly motivated enthusiasts. I would think they would be knocking each other over to get the first ones. Not everyone of course but a much higher percentage than 3%.

Get your own credit card. That’s how. Opt for email billing instead of paper billing. Don’t you have mad money? LOL.

Or you could gravel with her. Perhaps offer her a nightly back massage until she feels the financial debt has been paid? :)

We set an all-time RC M sales record this month and totally ran out of stock; we are already almost at 6 figures of backorders for next month. It's insane how much the high end stuff is selling right now, usually it's the other way around. People buying $5k radar detectors are not really affected by the same economic factors as those buying a $200 one.

Well Jon, if Theia delivers on expectations, your order fulfillment department may suffer a nervous breakdown trying to keep up.
Just saying 🤗

Harsh words and certainly a stretch. Never said nor implied the economy was shot. Never mentioned anything about poor people, bicycles, new cars, rolex watches or luxury markets. So I am not totally convinced that you understand me.

That said, 6-700 members on here purchasing Theia, at release, is a fair number. Some purchasing multiples. It may sound crazy to you, but sounds realistic to me. Our opinions are our opinions after all.

Is the plan to just announce a date/time when it will be available on the website, and the x number of detectors are all first-come, first-serve?

An alternate plan would be to slightly stagger the availability based on how long someone has been on the notification list ... perhaps the first 1000 (or whatever number is reasonable) on the list have a code which allows them to order starting at noon, the next 1000 on the list have a code which allows them to order starting at 12:15, etc. This would reward the most fervent fans.

This is an interesting thread to me, both because I hope to get one of the first Theia’s but also I know nothing about the inner workings of running a consumer product business like Radenso. I assume the pre-order list helps them with a indication of demand but then not all will buy. When you invest the dollars, the hours, blood sweat and tears into a revolutionary industry product like Theia, I assume you want to sell as many as you can at first production run both to the start getting a return on your investment but to also get it into the hands of users for a number of reasons. In terms of supply, I can echo those comments as we recently bought a used wakeboard boat and the market is crazy, huge demand, limited supply, and high prices.

It will be first-come, first serve. Giving certain people a code to order wouldn't be fair.
