I've downloaded build 2 and voice commands will not activate, either manually or by voice command. All voice options are turned on.
Managed to reproduce, working on that.

Just published build 3: fixed voice commands
Good morning @ferius, voice commands now activate on build 3, thanks.
I tried sending a report via voice, and Hwy radar responded normally and confirmed sending the command, but the report doesn't show up on Waze. Sending a report manually does work however.

Hm, interesting. If you don't have a SABRE plug-in, you should get a message saying that it vanrlt submit the report. A plug-in is required for reporting.

@ferius, build 3 seems to have resolved the crash/auto background issue I was reporting. Thanks. I can appreciate how difficult app development is.
This means that my guess about what was wrong was correct :)

@ferius I really don't understand the SABRE plugin. What is it?

Long story short, instead of spending a lot of time developing and maintaining some features (such as submitting reports), I decided to provide other developers means to implement them themselves, and integrate with the app. This will allow using many different data sources, which I can't implement all myself (for various reasons).

I just completed an extended road trip and had Highway Radar on most of the time. I notice the vehicle's speed display (above the PSL display) fades in and out constantly. Apart from that, I didn't notice anything else amiss.

Yeah, I think you're right about that. However, I'm on cruise control the majority of the time and the display is fading in and out all the time with a steady speed.

Yeah, I thought about that, too. The speeds displayed in other apps are behaving normally.

It's not any kind of major problem, I thought Ferius wanted people to reporting issues/concerns.

You're right, @ferius does want to know about issues. Let him know your phone model, android version etc. He's good about following up.

Oh, that is an undocumented feature, not a bug :)
The speeds grays out when you're below the beeper speed threshold, and goes white when you're above it.

Thanks for the info. What does changing the setting for the severity estimation do? 11111 vs 12345 etc

Oh... that severity estimation...
  • Every police alert in HwR has an associated severity level from 0 to 5 (it is represented with dots, the map marker color, and beeper frequency).
  • This severity level only depends on the distance to the alerts.
  • The old behavior was splitting the alert distance into even segments, and associate a severity level to each of them.
    • For example, let's say you have an alert distance of 2.5mi. Then you'll have:
      • Severity 5 in the 0-0.5mi range from the report
      • Severity 4 in the 0.5-1mi range from the report
      • Severity 3 in the 1-1.5mi range from the report
      • Severity 2 in the 1.5-2mi range from the report
      • Severity 1 in the 2-2.5mi range from the report
      • Severity 0 if farther than 2.5mi from the report
  • The old behavior didn't work well for every use case. For example, with an alert distance of 10mi you got a full-strength alert 2 miles ahead. This is way too long.
  • With the new model of severity estimation, the alert distance is split not necessarily into even segments. In fact, now the user controls how to split that distance.
  • If you have a split configuration of "1 2 3 4 5", then the sev4 zone will be twice as long as sev5, and the sev3 will be 3 times as long as sev5. Not that the numbers go in reverse.
    • For example, if you have the split configuration of "1 2 3 2 1" and alert distance of 9 miles then you'll get:
      • Severity 5 in 0-1mi range from the report
      • Severity 4 in 1-3mi range from the report
      • Severity 3 in 3-6mi range from the report
      • Severity 2 in 6-8mi range from the report
      • Severity 1 in 8-9mi range from the report
      • Severity 0 if farther than 9mi from the report
  • The old behavior corresponds to the split configuration of "1 1 1 1 1"
  • Take a look at the picture below, it might explain something
