Got a false on the max3 today passing a Range Rover evogue. It was only 1-2 bars strong but it did false, definitely not a full blast alert. 24.058 & 24.165

I had a Chevy SUV BSM false yesterday at 24.074.

I also had a Honda CR-V 24.168 false from a distance. Surprisingly, this one showed up as locked out. I was approaching a shopping center, but wasn't arriving at the parking lot yet.

This type of scenario is what scares me about GPS lockouts. Posts like this may keep me from me getting a GPS detector.

While exceptions do happen, they are in fact exceptions and not the rule otherwise GPS lockouts would not have not made this far and be so popular. Keep in mind too that the models with AutoLearn also have AutoUnlearn running at all times in the background to help clean up these types of things. As we all know, there should be a new RD out this year (by another manufacturer), that if all goes according to plan, should mitigate the need for lockouts.

I use lockouts but I’m cautious. For example if there is a false that is close to the center frequency like 24.150 and it’s in an area where they use k band heavily I won’t lock it out. If it’s in ka only country or something way off like 24.210 I’m not as cautious.

You can choose to not use lockouts. That is what I do. I like the GPS feature for red light and fixed speed cameras in my area. I turn Auto Learn off on my Max360c, but I can manually lock out signals if I want.

I personally am not comfortable using Auto Learn in my city as my city’s PD uses a lot of K-band. I have had several Escort detectors lock out real police radar which is why I personally don’t use GPS lockouts where I live. I am ok manually locking out signals if I am sure a particular city or town doesn’t use K-band, but I rarely use manual lockouts.

I was the same way forever prior to my latest one. You can turn it off thou. I actually have been using it now. Our frequencies vary massively here with seasons and what not, so decent amount of the time my lockouts don't hold anyway. Some signs hold better, especially one's i drive through everyday over one's i see once a week or 2, I drive all over for work. Makes sense, one i see multiple times a day, see the same freq more often so it holds until it changes. But i go up north once a week or so and the temp changes from what it was the last time so then I'll get alerted. Plenty fine with that thou. Rather have a tight radius and be safe than lockout all of k. What i like about escorts is they UNLEARN. If i manually locked out one speedsign, with the signal drift, I'd have all of k locked out with manual lockouts over the year.

So I'd either use the auto lockouts or none at all. I have it happen a decent amount where it grays out bsm cars. Sometimes it alerts, grays out, alerts multiple times back and forth. Guess i hope it actually does unlearn. Think sometimes the detector isn't sure. But the next time i hit the same road, that same exact vehicle shouldn't be there in the exact same spot and relative to me. Been fine so far. I pay attention to real k band frequencies, and lockout areas where they regularly sit.

I've thought about turning it off cuz i still get alerted sometimes and be a little safer. But think how it is implemented on my max 2, it is safe enough, and when they do hold, saves my speaker and makes for a quieter ride, passengers definitely like it better

Thanks @Vortex and @BagNDrag

After hearing this I went ahead and ordered one, should be here on Tuesday. I’ll put it through it’s paces and if it performs as well and filters as well as I hope I’ll gift it to the old man. Has to be better than a 5 year old IX.
Got one yesterday at Best Buy. So far so good!!! Waiting for firmware update before running in AUTO mode. Highway mode and very quite around K door openers.

Escort - any news as to when we can see an update for the Max3? Way too many Ka band falses and desperately needs some refinement.

My bet.... It will die on the improvement vine like the “our best ever” Redline EX, plus others. It will show up like the old toys in toy story offered for sale by Escort at flea markets, eFlea, Amazon, Ollies, and a host of other surplus like places. Heck, they have very recently sold the 9500 as new.
