This is primarily directed to @Vortex and anyone else who is testing out the new Max3. How well is it doing with bsm filtering especially compared to the Max360c? My dad is using an IX and the bsm alerts are crazy. He wants autolearn and doesn’t want the sensitivity of the RL360c so I had it narrowed down to getting him a max360c until the max3 came out so I’m curious which one is quieter and how the max3 handles BSM falsing in general.

That’s a good question. So the Max3 seems pretty quiet so far. I haven’t run the Max360c in a while so it’s hard to give a direct comparison, but here’s what I’ve noticed so far:

It’s pretty quiet overall and it doesn’t do the full tilt IO alerts like other M4s, thank goodness, but it does false to Mazdas and I get some random K band falses in the middle of nowhere. I also get quite a few Ka falses on odd frequencies like 34.4 and 35.1. I also get 33.8 falses pulling into my garage sometimes. Because of that, I’ve started disabling additional segments (I started running by 2/4/5/6/7/8) and have turned on RDR.

It’s not as quiet as the RL360c so far, but I do think it’s quieter than the R3.

I would agree with Vortex. I feel like it is a bit quieter than my Max360c, just because it has the K Notch filter that gets rid of the Hondas for the most part. It is super quiet.

Thanks @Vortex and @BagNDrag

After hearing this I went ahead and ordered one, should be here on Tuesday. I’ll put it through it’s paces and if it performs as well and filters as well as I hope I’ll gift it to the old man. Has to be better than a 5 year old IX.

Let us know what you think. I look froward to your findings! If you have K band in your area, run it in HIGHWAY mode as Vortex's testing has shown AUTO mode is a little too aggressive currently. I run in HIGHWAY mode exclusively.

Yea I’m planning to after seeing vortex’s findings about auto. I’ll have to have tsr on, I plan to run the k notch as well, is there another specific k filter in the menu like how uniden separates k filter and tsr?

.

RDR On? Have you tested response time on Ka? I am not sure I would ever run RDR on an Escort unless something major has changed. Have you found a change?

I haven’t done any testing with RDR on. Yesterday our baby fell asleep in the car so we drove for an hour until she woke up and so I turned on additional filters and cranked down the volume to get it to STFU. :p

I did come across a CO 33.8 LEO in traffic and it still gave enough range so it wasn’t a complete dealbreaker performance-wise.

So so far I've only gotten Mazda CX-5 falses. No Hondas, GMs, Chryslers, etc. I'm assuming it may still false to some Hondas and stuff, but it's been great about it so far. The CX-5 falses can happen from really far away though. In fact I've seen it quiet when I'm close to them and then it falses when they're farther away which is a little surprising.

Any experience running into the cx7/9?

Good question. Not sure if it doesn't false to those or if I haven't run into them yet.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for them. I noticed it was quiet to a Ford F-150, Chevy blazer, and Toyota Highlander on the way to work this morning. Saw the BSM light up on their mirrors but no alert.

So just a followup on this. @Cedar Electronics CTO just mentioned in the video released today that Escort is looking for frequency modulated radar to differentiate from continuous wave police radar. At close range it's easy to see the modulation, but farther away when the signal is weaker, it's very tough to see the modulation if present. This would explain why the Max 3 falses to BSM's at a distance but is quieter close up.

Thanks for that explanation. It’s a shame that K sensitivity on the Max3 has two setting. Highway or Auto and from your testing Auto is NOT an option (delivering ~5% of the range off HWY when driving 35mph).
