For you Americanos, at the exchange rate today, my new R3 (refurb) just ordered, will be at my home city store when I get back cost me:
$378CDN = $281.38USD.
Full one year warranty, could have paid to make it 4 years like on my R7, but hey, this is my backup.
Disposable right??
Well now I have another detector to add to the testing herd.
Escort turned me off with the new Max 3 being a non-digital M4++ platform.
I don't care how good they make it seem, it doesn't have much future firmware upgrade potential IMO.
It's a glossed over iX, not an evolution of a Max II, which I would buy before this one.
I can relax and wait for Theia now.
Maybe a few more radar guns to purchase before then...

This morning, first day of work out of province, and loading all my perishables and valuables into my truck, I lost grip on the R7.
Flying through the air, bang of the truck side, bounce off the pavement.
Had high hopes that the neoprene case saved me yet again.
Nope.
Corner impact, knocked off front plate, crushed the display screen.
Now got about 20% of the screen lights up and is unreadable.
Detector still functions perfectly but all audio only now.
Full dark mode now.
Got it boxed up and labelled, hitting post office in the morning.
Let's see if Uniden sends it back again with another Beta Firmware for testing.

As for the title of the thread, I pulled the second R7 out of the luggage and back up and protected.
Now do I go get a back up for the backup while in AB and no sales tax.
That R3 tempting me on sale this week.:D
That sucks. Sorry for your loss.

I just realized that on family holidays I will have 2 x R7s, 1 R3 and the wife's Pro M.
If I break an R7 in front of the family I will have to use the Pro M.
Or face the Inquisition:
When did you get a second one?
How much wss it?
Why didn't you tell me?
Why do you get to spend money on toys?

Me:
I told you, didn't I?
I fixed it while you were in the washroom, with the crazy glue in the fridge, can't you see the cracks? Good job right?

Me later: Yes dear, you can get a new car now.....

Store sent me email that my order is ready for pickup.
Won't get it until Friday night when I'm back home.
Must have had them in stock in PG.

Uniden charged my card $75 USD (103 CDN) July 28th to repair and return.
Yay, it's on it's way back!

Me wondering if another Beta firmware comes back again!:holy:

i feel u pain - i did the same thing with a brand new bel back in the 90’s.

i picked up the pieces out of the road and mailed them to bel with a copy of the receipt and a letter - please repair or replace. they sent me a brand new unit and it was a newer model.

@thesilverbullet 1987 I went over the handlebars of my motorcycle at 100 mph.
The bike with a Bel Vector (the one with those toggle switches sticking out the front) on the console, end over end for 3 blocks.
My buddy gathered up the crumbs left in a sandwich baggie and gave it to me later.
It was bag of pieces no bigger than a fingernail.
2 months after I got the store to send it away to Bel for a repair estimate.
Bel sent back a new one free of charge.
I almost fell down and broke my legs again.
They won a customer for decades after that.

P.S.
I was in almost as many pieces as the Bel, but took longer to fix, and never operated property again. LOL

Concrete Impact Disease has been known to be fatal to most electronics.

PS: Remember, it is not the fall that actually hurts you, it is the second bounce.

On a more serious note, how good is Uniden fixing their equipment?
"" CONCRETE IMPACT DISEASE ""

hahahahahaha. Good one 😜😜

Yeah, this is the one and many more Bel detectors through history, from the micro eye in the 70s up until my escort phase with 8500, then 9500s.
