@GailFromCedar mentioned
We are definitely open to increased interaction.
so I figured this would be a great area to post up questions in a consolidated area that can either be individually replied by the Escort team or perhaps be asked in an interview. I'm sure plenty of questions I'd like answered go into trade secrets, proprietary information, and business strategies, but I'll ask everything I can think of regardless and hope for the open answers on the level of what Radenso has provided the community here.

1. How is your AI working on The Redline360c? Radenso has been very open on how they use AI training of BSM signal recordings on their homebrew supercomputer, which then uses their SDR and FPGA on the detector to do edge-inference. How does your use of AI compare? Will you take up @Jon at Radenso 's offer to do a technical interview/conversation on using AI?

2. Your API is restricted to partners. Have you thought about opening up specific calls that end users can work with? We don't require all the inner-workings of your system, but being able to use your API to query which frequency and level is detected, along with being able to send kill/mute commands, would at least enable some basic functionality without leeching your sales of Escort Live services.

3. The maturing use of SDRs and LNAs for "more than enough" range, along with better BSM filtering through the use of AI or your in-house IVT filters, are getting premium radar detectors to the level most enthusiasts have been wanting for a long time. Once the BSM filtering is 100%, where do you see the next major step heading for counter-measures in general? (Please don't say connectivity)

4. Can you go into details on what the DragonEye update for your laser shifters involved? Is this just detection or are you effectively jamming their latest VPR ECCM algorithms?

5. What is the plan on trickling down more "Escort" features to your Cobra line? The DualPro and RoadScout seem to have strong guts, but seeing the poor performance of detectors like the RAD 380 compared to items like the DFR7 or R1 doesn't make for a strong product stack. Blister-pack Cobras have been a long running issue here of causes falses on other detectors.

6. Is there a plan for a refresh of the Solo series or the SmartRadar? Personally, I was a huge fan of the SmartRadar design, where it was more stealthy of a setup without having to go fully into the installation and cost of your custom installed detectors.

7. What's the deal with the auto-learning lockout patents? Is it your position that you still have related patents that protect that feature? It's frustrating to see Escort use expired patents, like Valentine One arrows, in there products but litigate other companies that believe they should be able to use the auto-learn patents that are supposedly expired. My personal belief is continued innovation, and not pointless litigation, will help a company succeed over others.

8. Do you have plans for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay integration? I never knew about the Maestro integration the 360C had until today and would like to see that further expanded upon with more popular platforms.

Thanks in advance for your replies and time.

So you expect them to cover their legal strategies and also provide us with their future business/product plans? That's not how business works. Companies don't openly provide future plans on forums, unless they're INTENTIONALLY releasing something they want customers to know. Radenso has done a great job of teasing us with general concepts of what they're developing but think about it, we still don't have a lot of specifics and that's intentional (kudos to Radenso for their stellar & modern marketing strategy - all of us are drooling so it's obvious that your strategy is working). Nobody knew we were getting a new V1 until it was launched that day. I was starting to wonder if Mike V was in a nursing home somewhere in Florida with the complete lack of communication. at Valentine.

Like many on this forum, I've been highly disappointed with Escort over the past years. With that said, I'm not going to hold it against them if they don't want to provide us (and their competitors) with their future strategies.

I'm not going to continue this discussion in this thread since I don't want to hijack it, but ask any specifics you want over in our section and we'll answer it. Since we are developing an open-source radar detector that actually uses AI and original patents using tech we developed right in Cincinnati, we've got nothing to hide. You guys will literally get our source code, let alone our API. Contrary to what some people think, there is nothing proprietary in APIs since the companies decide what to publish in them...besides, anyone can sniff out a protocol with a cheapo $500 Saleae. @SquirrelMaster or @InsipidMonkey or @jdong could sniff out any company's protocol with a week's worth of work. Before ALP agreed to integrate with us, we said "screw it, we'll just do it without their permission" and had a 90% complete integration going based on sniffing their protocols within a few days. It's not that hard.

I guess what I hope companies here understand is that there are members of this community that are far more technical than any employee at Radenso/Uniden/Escort, and that work for companies worth literally billions of dollars more than Radenso/Uniden/Escort. He/She/They who tries to BS those engineers are not in for a fun time.

On the flip side, there is plenty that is proprietary in our source code, but we've just got the belief that the community is smarter than individuals are so we'd rather leverage that for the betterment of everyone.

With that said, I'll bow out of this thread to allow Gail the courtesy of answering the questions without our interference.

Literally in the first paragraph I say “I'm sure plenty of questions I'd like answered go into trade secrets, proprietary information, and business strategies, but I'll ask everything I can think of regardless and hope for the open answers on the level of what Radenso has provided the community here.”
And there were insiders here who knew of V1G2.
Let’s get this back on track of questions we’d like to ask, even if Escort can’t answer them all.

Well I have a question for Escort. Any status on this issue? https://www.rdforum.org/threads/82894/ Last update was that Escort was "working on a solution" but there was no ETA yet as of November 12, 2019.
STS-134 - I went to the link you have from your original post. I will check into this.

I will reiterate (and shorten) a question I had which got lost in the deluge of correspondence in the various threads generated subsequent to the v1.3 Update:

Regarding the new Redline's 360c changed Preference default to Ka Narrow 2,5,8, would Escort's other digital-MAX segmentable models likewise benefit their owners by making a manual Preference change to their detector's narrow KaN2, KaN5, KaN8 bands, or is this just something that impacts the Redline 360c on its brand new SDR software defined radio platform?

Thanks

To Joe and the rest of the Cedar/Escort crew - while feedback of firmware 1.3 has been positive and has apparently fixed many of the reported issues upon release....please keep pushing forward to further enhancing and refining the Redline 360’s software instead of feeling “satisfied” with f/w 1.3.

The new Redline has so much potential and I really hope your software development team is will continue to release future firmware updates in a timely manner. Thanks

I'm guessing from their release notes they would have to do some fw updates for the other models to have this capability. I took the following to mean they did some optimizations around Ka Narrows specifically for the R360c:

Added Ka Narrows as default to improve response time: improved performance with Ka Narrows (2,5,8) over wide band sweep (default mode now)

Thanks for your response. No offense and not trying to hijack your thread so I'll touch on a couple of things since you responded and we can move on. You brought up some good questions. Not sure if Escort will respond to your questions based on history but I sure hope so.

As Jon touched on, we have some brilliant people on this forum regarding engineering/technical skills. It's a shame that Escort hasn't recognized that and taken advantage of it. Admittedly, I'm not a technical expert so I'm glad that I can learn from other forum members that are. My background/training is in sales and marketing with a number of fortune 50 companies so while technical stuff doesn't get me super excited ( I just want sh*t to work well, I don't care how it was developed), business strategy, business planning, sales, and marketing strategy is what gets me excited. I'm only mentioning this because I want you to understand the lens that my brain uses to analyze companies and products. With all that said, it's also pretty apparent that we don't have a lot of people on this forum with a lot of business experience. A majority of technical people would find a corporate earnings call to be extremely boring but some of us view them as a window of what a company is trying to do. Regarding Escort, I think it's "interesting timing" coming back to the forum. I hope they stay and view the forum an an asset that it potentially can be. So lets start with some agreement and welcome Escort back.

Moving on, since you commented, let me touch on a couple of things. Honest question - just curious but how do you expect Escort to answer " 7. What's the deal with the auto-learning lockout patents?" Everyone on this forum knows that auto lockouts have been a touchy legal subject. We've received some communication from companies mentioning auto lockouts but so far, the rest of the players have nixed it to avoid lawsuits. That along with Escorts' name recognition are probably their biggest competitive advantages. We may not like it but it makes sense that Escort is trying to protect their competitive advantage. When I was at Johnson & Johnson, I'd interview candidates that would ask me about some lawsuit they read about while researching the company. I kind of laughed because lawsuits in business are almost viewed as a cost of doing business. We used to joke that J&J employed more lawyers than sales people. With all that said, I could be wrong but....I just don't foresee Escort sharing their future legal strategy with us regarding how they're going to handle a major competitive advantage. Radenso may make this a mute issue in the future, but for now, it's does impact people regarding what detector they choose.

"And there were insiders here who knew of V1G2." Can you share who those individuals were? Were you involved? If not, when did you find out you could order a new V1? This forum has had LONG pages of threads speculating about a new V1 for years. Most of the threads started as serious and over time evolved into humor because there was complete radio silence coming out of Valentine. There were probably some people outside V that knew about it, but based on the obvious lack of beta testing with this new detector, testing wasn't extensive or many of the current issues would have been identified during testing. Compare the launch of the Uniden R1/R3 (where Uniden used a lot of forum members to beta test) with the launch of the new V1. For those of us that bought one of the original V1's when Mike first left Cincinnati Microwave/Escort, there weren't any issues that I can remember. The original V1 was a breakthrough at the time.

Escort reminds me so much of old GM. GM was so innovative with their engineering and product design in the 1950's. By the 1970/80's, they were arrogant and bloated and the corporate strategy moved away from a focus on products to a focus on marketing through things like badge marketing/rebadging (sound familiar Escort?). Hopefully it won't take Escort filing for bankruptcy before they realize that the consumer has buying options.

Well I have a question for Escort. Any status on this issue? https://www.rdforum.org/threads/82894/ Last update was that Escort was "working on a solution" but there was no ETA yet as of November 12, 2019.
Thanks for addressing this. I would love to see a software update to find a solution for the Ci for the rear antenna k band falsing issues, or at a minimum, just have the ability to turn on/turn off bands for each antenna like the RC M offers. I still can't plug-in my blind spot monitors due to the falsing issues. Come on Escort, you've impressed many of us with some quick upgrades to the Redline. If you can accomplish that, there's no reason you can't upgrade your most expensive custom detector.

I asked that specific question (was anything in Ka changed other than the default setting) as part of my original inquiry to which I did not get a response. So let's re-add that to the current inquiry so we will know for sure.

I don’t care WHY or WHAT Escort’s motives are for coming back to this forum - I’m just glad they are back and being interactive with the community members.
Absolutely! This is a very positive and surprising move, no matter what their intentions are. At the end, each business wants to make more money and have a better brand and client satisfaction, and I think this move by Escort can help with all of them.
