A lot has happened in the past few weeks (let alone what’s happened in the world these past few months) and I decided that I should take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Gail Babitt and I am the CEO of Cedar Electronics, the parent company of our Escort and Cobra brands.

The entire team here at Cedar recognizes that this forum is truly a great place to discuss, learn, and share info about radar detectors. You are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate radar detection individuals, and as such, I want to be a part of and contribute to the community.

We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response to our Redline 360c launch, and it’s been one of our best launches ever – so a big thank you to all of you that have contributed on the forum. We have heard from so many of you, and I want you to know that we are listening to your feedback. More importantly, we are taking action based on your comments on how to keep improving!

You might notice that as of today, a few folks from my team have joined the forum. Allow me to introduce:
  • Joe Sherbondy, our Product Manager for Radar. He will be here to help provide feedback on enhancements and updates to our existing products. He will also provide information when new products are launched.
  • John Kuhn, our Chief Technology Officer. John will be here to engage with you on our technology.
Of course, I will also be on the forum. We are all car enthusiasts who love driving, and we are here to listen and learn from radar enthusiasts like you.

We all have the same goal in mind, to ensure radar detectors continue to raise the bar. Stay tuned as we continue to share updates in the Escort and Cobra threads. Personally, I look forward to interacting with all of you on the forum.

Regards,
Gail
Hi Gail,
I purchased the MAX 3 at my local Best Buy this past Sunday, 07/26/20. This unit is running 1.1 firmware. Spent no fewer than 4 call attempts into Escort yesterday to no avail. Here’s my 2 part question that I hope you can please answer for me. When do you anticipate 1.2 firmware update to be released fixing the AUTO sensitivity and ramp up issues and second, how do you currently notify your (non-wi-Fi) unit customers/users of the most current firmware version available? Thank you in advance for your prompt response to my questions.

Hi Gail, welcome to the forum. You are brave. I have a simple Q for you. It seems like some users are confused whether the new MAX 3 is digital or not. The box shows DSP and some users seem to interpret that as a digital unit. DSP to me is Digital Signal Processing, a processing technique ESCORT (and probably any serious RD) has been using for years on practically all their detectors. So, is the MAX 3 digital (as in 360c, RL, ...) or not? And could you please clarify the DSP vs DIGITAL confusion - or is it all in my head?

Hi Gail- II have a question. I ordered my RL360c and 3 year subscription on the 29th last month and paid for 2nd day delivery. Now I learn that there were no shipments going out on the 29 nor the foreseeable future. Is there any updates on this that you can shed any light on? Thanks in advance for your reply---Ron

Hey folks – for those of you who have picked up a MAX 3, we hope you’re enjoying it! We’ve seen some posts here for the MAX 3 and DSP. We know that some of the Max 3 boxes out there have a DSP feature mentioned which is not accurate. We are aware of this and have since made a correction. Our website is correct.

There is also a question on which antenna is used. The MAX 3 uses is an M4++ platform which has improved performance over the M4+.

If you have purchased a unit at Best Buy, we do have a newer release of firmware available on the EscortRadar Website: https://www.escortradar.com/pages/update-your-device Detector Tools Pro (2.3.3.33).

Ron,
Most of it is a preference. For me, I would order online. Same reason I text instead of calling. : )

Ron,
Engineers are trying to replicate lockouts to resolve. Stay tuned.

I have called and purchased my last 3 detectors over the past 7 years from a lady named Barb. She is really nice and always goes out of her way to help. I also had the original Passport back in the early 80's when Cincinnati Microwave produced the best products. I am biased as I am from Ohio.

Long time Escort only user. I have purchased only BEL or Escort detectors for over 20 years, probably 15 or more units. Currently running 2 max360's that have been great. Tried the new redline 360 and finally after comparing it unit to unit with my older max's had to return. Running side by side ( only one on at a time), the new redline was sure silent...even silent when our local sheriffs that run active K and Ka all the time. Made me worry so I put the old max back in and sure enough it was lighting up well in advance as redline stayed silent. Even with 1.3 update the unit I received ( one of the early ones) just did not detect almost anything c/w with my older units. Got a dud I guess. Escort CS phone support is very over whelmed and almost impossible to get a rep, and usually receive "call back queue is full message'. To their credit they have instructions on the website for a no questions asked return on products purchased since last March thru 8/15/20...so I just sent mine back and they refunded purchase.

Now the issue is I need a new detector and no where to turn. Guess I will wait and see if Theia really plays out.

Does Gail ever respond or is this more like writing in a journal:)
I'm actually impressed as to how often she responds here on the forum. Honestly, being a CEO, I wouldn't expect her to respond much. She introduced Joe in the OP and I think (I could be totally wrong), he would be the one to reply more often than not. Every time I see a post by Gail, as a CEO, I'm highly impressed. Regardless of responses or not, I do know Escort is collecting the information, prioritizing and acting on them, as seen by the updates so far and the updates that have been announced.

Still waiting for someone from Escort to respond to my issues. My Compustar Remote Starter sets Ka band off on my Max 360c when I lock or unlock my truck. Never had this happen until the MRCD update from last year. Only does this with my Max 360c when plugged into my hardwire smart cord and doesn't do it when plugged into the cigarette lighter smart cord. Doesn't do it at all with my Redline Ex?? Very frustrating....

@Dodgediesel , I know you have been dealing with this issue for a while as I have seen you post about this several times. I know it is frustrating.

It sounds like you have done a lot of troubleshooting trying different detectors on your two power cords and trying your Max360c on different power cords. It is definitely strange that your Max360c works ok on your coiled smart cord but not on the hardwired smart cord since the MRCD update from last year.

I wish I had some suggestions on how to solve this issue. Have you tried emailing John ( @Cedar Electronics CTO ) or Joe ( @JSherbondy ) from Escort to see if they have any suggestions? I believe they listed their email addresses when they introduced themselves when they joined the RDF.

I don’t believe any of the Escort representatives have been on the RDF in August yet, so I would try reaching out via email to them if you haven’t already. Good luck! I hope you get this issue figured out.

They did on ERF what they did here. Introduce themselves then pretty much crickets after that.
I don't expect their CEO especially, or other top product people to be actively involved on either forum (nice that they did introduce themselves and answer a few preliminary questions) but it would be helpful for them to have an official rep that can respond to operational inquiries as they arise, especially on new products. They used to have that on ERF but now its only the moderators there who try their best but don't have access to the info necessary in many cases. It was truly enjoyable being able to "talk shop" with them.

I agree that it would be great if Escort (and every other radar detector manufacturer too) had at least one dedicated RDF rep that would be on the RDF frequently/regularly (or at least monitor) to answer questions, assist with customer concerns or questions, operational inquiries as you mentioned, etc.

I know Radenso has been very active on the RDF, but it seems like other manufacturers have Reps that come and go and are not consistently here on the RDF. I agree that Joe, John, and Gail all have high level positions at Cedar, but I hope they will be back relatively soon seeking feedback, sharing information, and answering questions from RDF members, or get a representative (@EscortRadar ) that will be active on the Forum consistently.

I know the RDF members are just a small percentage of radar detector consumers, but there are quite a few people on the RDF that are Escort customers, and I think it would be beneficial to Cedar/Escort and Escort’s customers here on the RDF if there was an active rep from Escort/Cedar on the RDF. Hopefully they will be back soon.

People are posing routine customer service questions which a CEO will likely not respond to. Cedar has their product manager here from time to time and it would be helpful if they had a true day-to-day rep on RDF.
