Welcome Gail. This is a great community and I'm sure everyone here will give you a warm welcome. I too am hopeful that having you and your team involved here turns out to be a long and mutually beneficial relationship. But, I am tempering my enthusiasm about your membership here and I don't mean that in a mean or sarcastic way.

Let me explain. You are a CFO who started as a CPA "Gail comes to Cedar having previously served as Chief Financial Officer of several other companies, including, Motus Integrated Technologies, Inuvo and Pamida Stores. She is a CPA who received her BS in Accounting from Nova Southeastern University and her MBA from Boston University." and CPA's and CFO's are typically only interested in one thing, the bottom line. "Gail is a high impact executive with a proven track record of improving the bottom line through revenue growth and cost containment," said Chris Cowger, President and CEO, Cedar Electronics. " I don't have a problem with that and I'm sure most here don't. I think we're all pretty clear that the point of being in business is to make money. But, developing and producing a top notch product usually incurs serious expenses, the kind most CFO's frown upon. It seems to me there is a conflict of interest here. Again, not trying to be mean, I just can't help but wonder if you were brought in based on your resume to be a turnaround specialist. Is you and your teams sudden involvement here nothing more than a new PR strategy? Just a way to try and return Escort to profitability? So, is Escort looking to become a serious leader in the industry again, one with cutting edge products produced right the first time with world class support? Or something more along the lines of, let me see if we can right the ship, show a profit and flip it off to another venture capital group for a profit? I hope that's not the case, as we have many many members here that were or are dedicated and extremely loyal to your product. The horror stories abound about how some have been treated either by Escort or on the Escort forums. Stories about the total lack of support from allegedly one of the biggest and best names in the business. It will take more than a 30 or 60 day involvement here before some will believe in your commitment to making your product the best it can be and not just another attempt to temporarily gain our support in hopes of increasing profitability while still not changing anything. Your words and early actions are very promising, I just hope you mean them.

A lot has happened in the past few weeks (let alone what’s happened in the world these past few months) and I decided that I should take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Gail Babitt and I am the CEO of Cedar Electronics, the parent company of our Escort and Cobra brands.

The entire team here at Cedar recognizes that this forum is truly a great place to discuss, learn, and share info about radar detectors. You are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate radar detection individuals, and as such, I want to be a part of and contribute to the community.

We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response to our Redline 360c launch, and it’s been one of our best launches ever – so a big thank you to all of you that have contributed on the forum. We have heard from so many of you, and I want you to know that we are listening to your feedback. More importantly, we are taking action based on your comments on how to keep improving!

You might notice that as of today, a few folks from my team have joined the forum. Allow me to introduce:
  • Joe Sherbondy, our Product Manager for Radar. He will be here to help provide feedback on enhancements and updates to our existing products. He will also provide information when new products are launched.
  • John Kuhn, our Chief Technology Officer. John will be here to engage with you on our technology.
Of course, I will also be on the forum. We are all car enthusiasts who love driving, and we are here to listen and learn from radar enthusiasts like you.

We all have the same goal in mind, to ensure radar detectors continue to raise the bar. Stay tuned as we continue to share updates in the Escort and Cobra threads. Personally, I look forward to interacting with all of you on the forum.

Regards,
Gail
Welcome I own two of your products. Hope we can all help each other.

Eight years ago I would have welcomed this and in fact encouraged it......actually worked for it (literally worked for it).

But Escort turned their back here when they didn't like the music........ie. honest and accurate feedback. The truth was that your products were not living up to expectations. Expectations created by over zealous and exaggerated marketing with performance claims that fell short. Far short. We heard the same story then that although we were highly critical of the new digital platforms that they were making a huge splash and were an outrageous success.

But the opinions here and financials didn't appear to follow that story. Your relatively new facility in Mississauga was dismantled and sold off, manufacturing outsourced and your creditor kept reporting huge losses on the nonperforming merger loan. Now that your market share has dropped like a rock and your latest release hitting record RETURNS your back.

Try something different this time. Try being honest for a change. You wouldn't be here now if things were so peachy. This is fire control.......so use water, not gas.
She didn’t work at Cedar then. Ultimately the proof will be in the pudding so let’s give it time and use this to be productive.

That is a very fair question. I don't see driving profitability and creating great products as mutually exclusive. My goal is to accomplish these things simultaneously. The best way to build value in a business is to drive a sustainable solution for customers. I do not expect time on the forum to win you over. The goal of joining the forum is for you to know that we are not the same company with the same leadership. We are here to contribute and listen. I am hoping our products will convince you that we are driving great solutions for our customers.

I'm glad to hear that and I think we're all looking forward to seeing how a new perspective can make your company better. Sounds like you have some exciting new ideas. At the end of the day a better product from any of our vendors is only a good thing for all of us. We have a great group here. There is an extensive amount of CM related experience available. If we can help or offer any insight that will assist you and your team to produce a better product, I think you'll find we'll be happy to lend a hand.

Hi Gail,
I just left you a voice message asking for you or a representative to contact me regarding the very poor (to say the least) customer service and sales support I am receiving while TRYING to order a RL360C. I sincerely hope this reaches you and someone will give me a call.
Thanks!
~Mike

Hi Gail,

Not sure if you have heard about some back orders being shipped out of sequence (posted in another thread), but here are the details, if you could please ask someone to check and advise regarding this:

This past Friday, at least two forum members who both ordered the Redline 360c on July 10 received shipping notifications and tracking numbers from Escort / Cedar.
Meanwhile at least two others, including myself, who ordered the Redline 360c before July 10 (July 7 for one member and July 8 in my case) have have yet to receive any shipping notification...

In short:
Logically, we would expect back orders to be filled in the order received (i.e. on a FIFO basis).
Given some July 10 orders already shipped, can someone help expedite the fulfillment of outstanding Redline 360c orders placed before July 10, including mine, thanks!

I can PM my order # / info if it helps. I see the Escort forum no longer has PM functionality; I used to leverage that (Larry was able to assist me with a few items over the years).

PS: I know some people have been trying to find out more by phone, but with Escort / Cedar CS being overloaded, some are awaiting callbacks; others (e.g. someone who ordered July 13) heard their order will be part of the next batch; however given the out of sequence shipping which occurred last Friday, we would hope this time the orders placed earliest will be shipped first.

The time limit to edit my post above has expired. Please ignore the above since I just received a shipping notification! Good timing since I was about to call Escort based on a PM I received from another member.

Will ask mods to remove / edit my above post if possible.

Yes, I did receive a shipping confirmation email after my original post), thanks Gail.
So as it turns out, it ended up being pretty close in the grand scheme of things - last Friday evening for those July 10 orders as opposed to today for my July 8 order.
However, before receiving this shipping confirmation this afternoon, I had heard this morning that someone who asked was told theirs would be in the next batch at the end of this week. hence I inquired above.

Anyway, looking forward to trying my R360c out as soon as I receive it and, as I usually do, sharing my experiences on the forums.

I drive a lot less than I used to (was working remotely even before COVID-19), so it may take a little while before I have any actual police radar encounters; it also seems radar enforcement has been down (understandable under the circumstances), but I will share what I can after trying it out.
Till then, I can at least report on the BSM filtering.

hello Gail- Is there any advantage to ordering by phone over ordering online in terms of shipping out time? Also do you have any updates for us on the lockout at power down situation? Thanks

Ron,
Most of it is a preference. For me, I would order online. Same reason I text instead of calling. : )
