Hi, (looking at you L4D44). : )

Could you all please grab your detector, and lightly shake as shown in video. Listen for rattle and please advise if you have same experience. Generally on my mount the detector does not rattle, however when my car goes over any kind of rough road, or over rumble dots between lanes, the detector makes this rattle. Have not a previous detector do this, so probably sending this one back as well.

It's a solid state device. There shouldn't be any rattling, unless the buttons are plastic and loose. You can quickly test that out by holding them down while you shake it.

Something has come loose and although it may not affect performance at the moment, whatever is no longer secured, was secured for a reason.

I think your consideration of sending it back is a good idea.

Sorry for the late response but I checked mine and I’m definitely hearing a “rattling” noise in my unit too - but ONLY when I move the detector in a forward and back motion, not in shaking motion like your video. Also it’s not as loud as your RD in the video.

Not sure if this if somewhat normal or if there’s something loose on the inside like the gps chip as someone else reported happening with their Redline. I don’t know but for $827 (that’s how much I paid with California tax) it shouldn’t make any rattling noises.

Unsure on how to move forward with this now but you can bet your shiny, pretty pennies that I’m contacting Escort tomorrow morning. Totally unacceptable.

This is a feature, not a defect.

In the wild, the Cobra hisses to let you know a strike is imminent. Keeping true to the Cedar Electronics form, what we have here is the masterful imitation of nature; the sound of the rattler of the serpent implemented as an over speed alert. Anytime you are going too fast for road surface existing conditions, the rattler is activated, warning you to slow down.

I also wondered if it was the buttons "clanking" into each other, so held them down (all at once, and then again individually) and repeated the test. Same thing, so it is something inside it seems.

Oh geez. Sorry to hear that. (No pun intended)

It caught my wife's attention while driving, and then of course once you hear it, you cannot unhear it. Each and every rattle as the car runs over my hopes and dreams laying on the road. : )

For the love of god, please make one of your videos about this!! I need a good laugh

Seriously though, that sucks that you have to send another one back...
Yeah, I am going to leave video making to Vortex. Incredibly time consuming, and truthfully just wanted to have some fun. Editing and annotating somebody else's video is easy, but creating new content, totally different set of skills and commitment needed. Hat is off to him.

Mine is going back..... for a REFUND! I’m not going to do this dance with Escort.

Too bad because I actually liked the Redline and saw great potential down the line but too many RED FLAGS out of the gate for me to warrant keeping this $827 unit.

IF Theia flops I could see myself purchasing the Redline again down the road if or when all the issues have been resolved. Heck even sent back the V1G2 due to the front faceplate glue coming apart. What the heck has happened to Escort and Valentine Research????

I’m going back to my trusty Uniden R3 for the time being. Theia is pretty much my last hope and I’m not overly confident about it to be truthful.

Escort CS rep Misty had the audacity to tell me that I had to return the item back on my dime. I explained to her that’s not how it works. When a customer receives a defective unit out of the box it’s the sellers responsibility to pay for return shipping.

(sarcastic) She was soooooo nice to grant me a one time “exception” and send me a prepaid return label. Also said that my refund might take 2 WEEKS after they receive the item back. Absolutely absurd but at least I now know that I will never be purchasing an Escort product again. Good job Cedar Electronics!

The CFO has no experience in consumer electronics and was hired for "deal valuation". A flood of returns may get her attention as they are deals that went south.

Figured it was a woman! Lol. Can I still say this in 2020 or will it offend the many snowflakes out there today?

As I mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I had a pretty substantial rattle. See attached movie.

Mine is solid, no rattling.
Thank you. Seems to be a hit or miss issue.
