Will I be disappointed?

Long time V1 owner here (16 years). I’ve never had a detector with GPS or any other “connected” features and just had a few questions, as I’m about to pull the trigger on a Max360c or Redline

-Does the “Escort Live” community actually provide any value ?

-Have you gotten any tickets with your Max360c or Redline ? (I’ve had only 1 in 16 years, due to laser)

Thanks

To answer the question on whether you will be disappointed or not :

purely subjective.
I will never flat out tell you what to choose as there’s so much to factor into a decision. But we aim to provide the facts for you so you make an informed purchase / decision.

keep in mind you’re paying a lot more for these two ( specifically redline) compared to other brands that will outperform the two you’ve mentioned.
the increased range and sensitivity on the others may be the difference between you getting to your destination with or without an officer stopping you for speeding.
many good deals available on some other detectors at this time ( and run them with waze you will be as good / better than escort live )

Thanks , and that’s exactly the thought I had. I figured the premium was not due to increased range, but rather for all the bells and whistles it had.

I'll say this much, Waze has magnitudes more users than Escort Live and even then it's still limited for usefulness as many reports are inaccurate or the LEO has moved on. I can't see spending that kind of money for a detector which often performs equivalent or worse then the competition, and then having to pony up more money for a feature that is less useful than what already is out there for free. That's my 2¢.

I think I've used Escort Live once, and that was because I was curious back when using the 'passport' renamed as the X50.

I'm not sure if actually us Escort Live still, but I know for sure most of us in here don't. I would also wait for the review from Vortex on the Redline before pulling a trigger on that, if your interested.

Honestly, no. Waze is still better.

I agree with the others, Waze has a much larger user base and therefore I find more use out it. I might be inclined to use both and I've had some success with it but I certainly wouldn't rely just on Escort live. In practice, most don't end up turning it on because it requires manually starting the app unless you use automation on Android. But for most, it's just too much work.

I'd buy a new detector for better range and better K band filtering if you have K in your area, not so much for the connectivity

I personally don't use it or waze but it may be useful for people that like to use apps during driving, setting is easy in the app , I had the Rl and the Rex for the last 10 years ,no tickets , the rex was very quiet for me , I ran kband2 only , sold my rex and currently waiting on theia and then I'll decide if I continue with escort products !! I think aslong as we don't get tickets with any of them we are all doing good !!!

Johnboy’s app for the Valentine is really, really good. The Uniden shows most of that stuff right on the screen.
For the price per performance, as far as I can tell right now, you are 100% getting a better value buying a Valentine or Uniden besides the Redline 360.
If they were in the same price range I would endorse them all equally. The RL360 probably isn’t that bad, it just isn’t worth the asking price. And the advertising claims were way out there.

Before you pull the trigger on one, I'd wait until people on this forum and/or Vortex does a review and tests on the new R360C. I'd also take a look at the V1G2 or the Uniden R7 as they are really good options as far as performance goes for $200-$300 less.

As far as escort live, Waze does almost the same thing and it has a much larger userbase compared to escort. The only thing escort live does that I see value in is that it uploads the frequency of the radar band do you can be sure that the signal you are detecting is the correct one.

Can't give any input on the Redline but the Max 360c is a solid detector with all the features it has and it's plug and play functionality, but I still think the R7 is worth since you can find it for under $450 on amazon these days.

Escort (Barely A)Live is a joke and costs money. Lol. You’re way better off with Waze and JBV1 overlay. Both FREE btw.

If you truly love yourself and more importantly, love your money, then get a V1G2 or a Uniden R7.

Thanks for the replies. Going for the gen2
As an owner of V1G2, MAX 360c, R7, R3 you can't go wrong with the V1G2 as long as your ok with using your phone with it. No MRCD, if you need that I'd go with something else. My number ONE for me is the MAX 360c. Sure it comes up a little short on range but it's still a good detector & does everything else really well and it will do it all for you. This is the detector I want on my wife's windshield when she's driving. All she has to do is drive.

I vote stick with the v1. It's really good with the app.

Here's how "valuable" Escort Live was for me. Escort Redline EX with Live running on an iPhone which is supposedly the more stable platform as compared to Android. Live took it upon itself to first disable all K band segments, then it went and disabled all bands and segments all by itself. I deleted the app and sold the EX soon thereafter.

Ouch!
That's the kind of thing that worries me about laser counter measures. Once set up and hopefully tested, from that point on, how do I know they are still working?

Other than not getting a ticket of course :)

I was only using Live to initially program settings on the EX and never once used it for alerting to reported threats. Live did this while the app was not being used. Waze has untold millions more users that Live and it doesn't have the temerity to change settings on your detector. Live used to integrate Waze police reports at some point in the past but I don't think it does any more. Live almost mad me a Dead duck.

Live just doesn't do it for me. It's nice that Escort includes a 3 year subscription, at least for a limited time, but like you say, Vase has a huge number of users and the more users the better the data.

Escort should consider opening up their API because then people like JohnBoy could write software to take advantage of the features that the detector has.

At the very least, invest in a pocket laser tester to test the heads periodically. Testing with live guns (among friends, not LEOs) on occasion is a great idea too!

All, in my experience, Waze can be flaky at times. I'd recommend either JBV1 or Highway Radar to get the alerts that Waze sometimes forgets are there. Both Android apps happily exist in the background while Waze is on the screen. Both apps can open Waze for reporting with one button if you prefer to do it that way. :)

Waze is still the best way to report CSAs that we have. Those reports from us are very valuable. (Google Maps has added the feature for some, but it seems to only be partially rolled out and doesn't seem to work reliably.)
