    Max issues or service returns

It appears to me that a high percentage of Max units have manifested one issue or another over the last five months in our community. I am interested if we can collaboratively estimate percentages.

If you own a Max or have owned one or more please vote.

I would appreciate it if a neutral admin would sticky this thread so we could get a honest and candid assessment over a period of time.

I have opted that voting names will not be displayed with results.

    Thanks.

Re: Max issues or service returns

Own 2 maxes. Both alerting to odd ka frequencies. Both alerting to laser falses near construction zones or toll rd. Sent one I for service due to very erratic behavior. Received back this Friday. Will test on trip to Dallas this week. May have to send other Max in for sevice. Both of my maxes were operating ok until 1.6 update.

The max I received back from service alerted to 35.5 about 1.25 mile distance yesterday. This max was one of the first 1000 with max package. Will test further.

On side note I get live alerts on my max but no alert on EL app on phone. Escort noted this as unusual.

Re: Max issues or service returns

I voted "construction related issues" and "multiple returns for different issues."

My first Max had great performance but about three weeks after I received it I got the "GPS Error" and they replaced the detector. The second one went back a couple weeks ago for a separating outer shell (IMO, it was caused by vibration on the mount that weakened the internal clips). This one seems to be performing decently as well.

My ultimate verdict is that performance is definitely acceptable (no, I'm not saying it gives better performance than the Redline... I'm saying it gives me more than enough protection for my own purposes) but the physical design needed some more thought- had they stuck with the old mount design there'd not be a single thing wrong with it. That resting against the windshield kept it from bouncing and coming apart.

I don't believe it was the most prudent design choice to have the mounting clip directly come in contact with the rear lens, either. I believe there has been too much stress applied to it, doing so. Judging by some tear downs, though, I believe Escort has the ability to introduce and update the outer casing which could likely rectify mounting concerns and compatibility with other more generically sized ones.

I Really liked your Max review on your blog. It was, to me, spot on. Seems that I'm not the only one who's noticed the flaky detection issues. I've never experienced that on any of my Escort detectors.
I still contend that it will never beat the RL detection wise. IMHO, the Max's antenna characteristics won't stand up to the M3. I doubt you will be posting your reveiw on the other forum any time soon. However, I think that your review was fair, accurate and 100% supportable.

I have not had to send my Max back to be repaired, but I did send it back for a Beta software and it came back with the antenna repaired ticket though it didn't seem to need it.

Results look like approx 75% of 26 total voters have had an issue with their Max and 26% did NOT. Those numbers are NOT looking good to me........
