Non argumentative question: Are CBs necessary with today's technology?

They're probably as bad as the old "cell boosters" people got that attached in the same way. CB communication is 10% radio, 90% antenna. A legal, un-amplified radio can talk for miles without skip if it's hooked up to an antenna that's as close to perfect as can get. The old base antenna we...

    Virginia still use detector detectors?

Yes, on SR-32 heading for Cincinnati. It wasn't very expensive, but still shocking. If this kind of thing catches on, we're all in trouble. 1553780850 You would think with all the money I've given them over the last decade they'd be rolling in it!

Non argumentative question: Are CBs necessary with today's technology?

The Little Wil and the K30 are both great options. Magnet mounts, small, and easy to install. The most important thing to getting the best performance out of one of these small antennas is making sure your standing wave ratio is as perfect as you can get it.

    Virginia still use detector detectors?

Ah, I didn't realize there was a difference between PCAS and TCAS.. interesting. I knew somewhere out there someone used something to detect aircraft as a countermeasure, but it's really been a long time since I've seen it. As far as VA and airplanes is concerned -- yes, they have indeed...

    Virginia still use detector detectors?

Wythe County Sheriff's Department Virginia State Police These are the only two that I personally can confirm use them... But yes... the Radar Detector Detectors are very much alive and still in operation! ALSO: Do not ignore the "Speed Limit Enforced by Aircraft" signs. They still do that...

My 1st Week With The V1....Umm...

85% of my actual LEO encounters are via K band. Because of this, I'm one of the very unlucky ones on this forum. The V1's "situational awareness" is the only reason I run the stinkin' thing. It's annoying these days with all the door openers and Mazdas around me, even paired with apps --- but...

Non argumentative question: Are CBs necessary with today's technology?

There is still a lot of CB use in rural areas where I am, as not having cell service (yes, in 2019) is still a common occurrence. I have switched all my gear to magnetic mount antennas, or trunk lip antennas where the antenna can actually be removed from the base.. I mainly use my CB when on...

Valentine One Compare FW versions 3.89XX

This actually happened to me today with my 3.8952.. can confirm, still an issue - albeit rare, since most of those things are in junkyards these days..

    V1 - BSM filtering better w/ 3.8952?

My 3.8952 seems "slower" on K-band than my 3.894, but I'm subjectively speaking... Regardless, they both alert to BSM's from GM's, Acuras, etc. just the same... No discernible difference, if you ask me.

Dying to disable K-band on my new R3 on a road trip. Shall I?

Leave it on in West Virginia. On I-77/19 you're more likely to see 34.7 and 35.5 over K band.. but as you move north towards PA and all up I-79, K-band is actually much more common than Ka...

Vortex can ya get interview with Mike Valentine

What he was getting at was.. if they are using laser, they would have to be sitting still. For example, manpower is not adequate here to have a "shooter" and a chase vehicle like I've seen in VA, GA, etc.. and most of the time, LEO's don't sit around here on the highway.. so when (and if) they...

Vortex can ya get interview with Mike Valentine

That's all I see around here. 7 out of 10 legitimate radar alerts are K-band... the other 3/10 are 35.5 :( A good friend of mine is a county LEO (who happens to have an RD in his personal vehicle, LOL..), and he says they only use LIDAR in town because they don't like being stationary on the...

Vortex can ya get interview with Mike Valentine

While Vortex is at it, perhaps he (or someone else) could get an original V1 and test/review it. Not sure why, but I've always wanted to see that. The oldest one I had was one of the fat ones... Mike V. surely has a few laying around.. maybe even some of the old prototypes...

    V1 - BSM filtering better w/ 3.8952?

Have had experience with all three... 3.894 & 3.8952 are semi-noticeably better than 3.893. With 3.8952 you will still have Mazda's, GM's (especially Buick SUV's) and Acura's punch through... that being said, in area's where I used to get 7-9 K bogeys on 3.894, I only get 1-2 on 3.8952.. (not...

Vortex can ya get interview with Mike Valentine

I was on hold with VR once and the scripted hold thing they have where he says "you never know, the next voice you hear might be mine" wasn't a joke. I ordered a V1 over the phone one time and got to talk to Mike directly. It was pretty neat.. he didn't talk much, but he was pretty nice. RE...

    Thinking about the v1

V1 + V1Driver are keeping me alive here in K-band hell. I like to think of the V1 as a Porsche - while not the fastest, or most exciting sports car in the world, it's the most well-rounded one of the bunch (when paired with an app, of course..)

Impressive... I wonder how that would fare in Virginia? I'm sure the cops would be scratching their heads looking for your V1. :hmm:

    V1 Stolen... what next?

They for sure have the serial numbers, they even had the credit card on file that I used to purchase my original V1 WAY back in the day! Kinda scary they still have all that information; would suck "big league" if they got hacked or that info was breached....

    V1 Stolen... what next?

Hello all, Thanks for all of the feedback. It's been a rough week.. and yes, the drive home was especially long; thankfully I had a few awesome Waze saves (especially in Virginia). I have called to file a police report and am patiently awaiting a call back from a deputy. As far as the V1 goes...

    V1 Stolen... what next?

The title says it all. :( I was on my way back from Atlanta yesterday and stopped at a gas station to rest up a but, get some snacks, etc.. I pay up to the lady at the register and I walk outside to my car where my wife is supposed to be sitting... turns out, she left the keys in the ignition...
