Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

Thanks to all who posted comments here. A revised version of the story will be ready within a week or two, given that ordered parts arrive on time. It will include minor edits, working links, lessons learned, and will address the following, based on recent comments: - How to build a windshield...

Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

Thanks for the clarification. It appears that there were lots of changes in USB ports from MY 2020 to 2021, as noted here: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-usb-3-0/ They added a USB 3.0 port in the glovebox to improve sentry and video performance, while the USB ports inside the console were...

Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

Interesting that your car has room to mount the V1G2 up there. What year is it? In my 2020 M3P, the right visor extends more to the left, so I could not fit the V1G2 in there as you did. Can you get your fingers in there to work the +- buttons on top? I see that you are a JBV1 user. Do you still...

The Quick Mount has been working very well in my Model 3. Attached is a better picture of it. I have a revised version of the story, mostly minor edits, just about ready to post and would appreciate any comments, corrections, questions, etc. that might be incorporated. Thanks

Sorry, Figure 7. somehow got inverted. Attached is a corrected version of it. I also noticed that the links don't seem to work just by clicking...you need to cut and paste them into a browser. Based on comments, I may issue a revised document.

Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

Thanks. I have seen this video from Ingineerix. Is VCLEFT the big red wire, the harness that it is part of, the connector, the module, or something else?

    Thanks. What is VCLEFT?

Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

Yeah. This 2018 movie shows how to get the 12V from under the console via the blue wire under the left edge of the dash, closer but still a pita. I just verified that in my 2020, 12V under the console stays on when you enter power off via the touch screen, but turns off within an hour after the...

Quick Mount for V1gen2 in Tesla Model 3

INTRODUCTION. Working on a quick mount and wired power connection for a new V1gen2 in my 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance, I have been taking pictures and will post the rest of the story, once it is done and working properly, with lessons learned. In order to power the V1gen2 optimally-mounted...

    Valentine 1 reverse polarity protectected???

I agree that it must have at least protection against polarity reversal. If it has a bridge rectifier (4 diodes or FETs), it could even work with either polarity.

    New User Seeking JBV1 Info

From the OP: Many thanks to all who have replied! Regarding the frequent software updates, as I wrote; "Tesla has the same "problem", with frequent updates that quickly make the owner's manual obsolete." A helpful mitigation is to have access to release notes for each update. Is there a release...

    New User Seeking JBV1 Info

Thanks. I will probably try that. I could use a pro-clip to mount the Note 8 horizontally in front of the steering wheel and leave the S10+ in it's current vertical mount above, left, and parallel with the Tesla 15” display, That mount is very convenient, with built-in wireless charging and...

Good idea. I have a note8 that still works and might try that. But to get Internet connectivity, I would need to reactivate it with Verizon, right?
