So, just received my statement from American Express. Was billed $510.16 for the detector and shipping. Returned the defective detector and was refunded $486.00! Not at all happy with VR. Of course there is no one there to talk to. Filed a dispute with AmEx for the difference as it was a defective detector. I shouldn't have to eat anything if they have a problem with their product.

Was the refund difference the shipping cost or something else? I agree with you, though, the whole point of having a return policy is to have the confidence that there was zero cost to trying out the detector. If they don't want to do that, they will lose customers who are on the fence.

I was going to say it was the cost of shipping but that's a $24.16 difference.

seems like it would be $510.16 - any return fees? do they charge a return fee?

Was it missing any of the original packing foam inside the V1 box? I know they charge for that!

that's ruff - better off just having a fixed return fee.

Do tell when you find out. I can understand if they didn't refund overnight shipping, but I'd like to know the explanation as to why less than $499 was refunded.

It’s my understanding BOTH shipping charges are non-refundable, therefore the OP was charged $12.08 each way. Hence, $24.16 less in the refund.
But this return is not buyer remorse, if that is their policy for returning a defective unit, it is not very customer friendly.

Shipping via ground to me was $11.16. Not sure about your math. If I returned because I changed my mind, that's understandable. Any other time I have purchased a defective item online, the business has refunded all costs. Definitely don't want my return business if that's how they handle their issues.

seems to me (and I could be wrong), all the big rd manufacturers charge for shipping and then you go from there. it could be you need to call to get the adjustment because the computers automatically kick in with the details. clearly if there is a defect, you would expect the retailer to pay for return shipping (to get the defective device back) and then pay shipping to send out the replacement; the customer should only have to pay shipping one time. if mike would get with the times and build in free shipping, not only would he make more money but also he would have more customer satisfaction. I really dislike their shipping costs on all accessories.

Yeah, they got me also when I sent back my Gen1 last year after only a week. I got charged for the shipping back to them, even though it's supposed to be return for FULL refund. I wasn't refunded the shipping cost for a product I was not pleased with. They need to make that more clear.

Return for repair for defect is different than return for refund due to defect. If you wanted it repaired I think they would have covered everything. If you decided you no longer want it my guess is some shipping difference.

So I can make something that doesn't work, sell it to some poor sap, and make money from only refunding part of it?

I'm in the wrong damn business.
