Hi everyone,

This release adds different risk scores for weekdays and weekends, improves profiles management, has some updates to the UI, TTS, and fixes several bugs. Below is more detailed information about the new features.

  • Different risk scores for weekdays and weekends
Now risk scores depend on the weekday. There is one risk score for Monday through Friday and another for Saturday and Sunday. National holidays aren’t considered yet.
  • Profiles can be renamed
Moving from hardcoded A, B, and C profiles to custom names. Tap and hold on the profile name in the in-drive menu to rename it.
  • Current profile is deactivated on settings change
If you apply a profile and then change application settings, the profile name won’t be highlighted in the in-drive menu anymore as current settings don’t match what is recorded in the profile anymore.
  • Option to set minimum threat level for beeper
The threat level is the number of dots you can see in arrows mode. It also defines the frequency of the beeper. Now there is an option to disable the beeper below a certain number of dots (e.g., beep only on three dots or more).
  • PSL is added to the voice announcement
The app announces the current speed limit, not the one at the place of the report.
  • All street names are pronounced for clustered police alerts
In previous versions, if there is a clustered police alert located on different streets (more than one), then no street was pronounced in voice announcement. Starting from v2.2.2, all streets are pronounced.
  • Option to show aircraft tail numbers
If you have a co-pilot, they can google the aircraft and confirm if it is dangerous or not
  • Updated UI for small arrows
The threat level is now displayed with the dots instead of a number in the middle of the arrow.
  • Fixed several bugs
    • Fixed not all car accidents reported are visible in the app (crowd-sourced alerts)
    • “Enable police alerts” and “Enable hazards alerts” switches were ignored if set to different positions.
    • The first attempt of recording bug report message after application start failed (hanging on “Starting recording...”)
    • Fixed application layout when the system font size is set to large
    • Fixed speed limit not visible in portrait layout on small screens
    • Fixed no “reset zoom” button in landscape layout in map display mode

Besides this, there were a couple of improvements on the aircraft server side. These changes affect all versions of the application.
  • Updated filtering algorithm to better handle cases with police aircraft owned by private parties
Please report any bugs you see in this version (you can opt-in into the easy reporting in the “General” settings page). And special thanks to those 83 people switched to the beta update channel!

The UI changes look great. Thanks for getting the dots onto the map view.

It does look like when you upgrade from an earlier version you haven't written the defaults for Show tail numbers and Minimum threat level after for beeper (is that a typo?) into the three stored profiles, so they all follow whatever is the current setting when you load a profile until you've saved over the existing one.

Will be doing some more thorough testing this week, hopefully on my favourite troublesome helicopters!

Outstanding work once again thank you.
I would join up for Beta but I'm house bound for a while and won't get to drive much.

Well, it is rather a feature than a bug :)
When a new setting is introduced, it is intentionally not applied with profiles changes. However, once you override the profile settings for the next time, it will be recorded.
This decision was made intentionally as it looks better to me :)

That makes sense then, so in that regard it's working exactly as you expect when you switch profiles.

Busy helicopter morning this morning, and it properly alerted to one of the ones that was previously causing a problem, so that's good news.

Couldn't find any bugs in the beta today, but did find a couple of typos to get on your list:
Settings -> Sound -> Beeper Settings -> Eneble beeper (should be Enable beeper)
Settings -> Sound -> Beeper Settings -> Minimum threat level after for beeper (probably should be Minimum threat level for beeper)

Also, not sure on the value of this yet, but do you think it is worth being able to tap the aircraft icon on the map to toggle the mute (like you can with the labeled police), since in map view you can only see the top 2 alerts, which means your muted ones can drop into the hidden alerts and become difficult to subsequently unmute? Or another possibility might be adding a gesture to be able to drag the alerts overlay down to temporarily show 3 or 4 in map view and then have it automaticlly close back down to the maximum 2.

This app is getting better and better by the day though! Thank you.

Big thanks for pointing that out, will fix soon.

It may be a good idea, I'll think about the best way to implement it.

Somewhere in cyberspace.
I noticed that I cannot clear the app from my "recents" screen after it is opened and then closed, only on older devices, though.

I don't know if this is by design, but when you change map overlay it doesn't deselect the current profile. It may be a deliberate choice because you're only changing the view rather than the core settings, but the flip side is that you're now running in a mode that doesn't completely align with the stored profile settings.

Android applications don't control whether they appear in the recents or not, this logic is purely handled by launchers.

Well, this was an intentional choice as well. As you mentioned there are two sides here. I personally quite often switch between map overlays while driving (mostly between heat map and traffic) and I don't really want my profile to reset after each switch.

I did think this might be deliberate, but was checking because the profile stores the overlay type. It is useful to still be able to see which profile you're in when you change overlay, as the settings could have a bearing on the level of risk you are taking.

and i am still confused about google maps... ok, i cannot see that map, but you dont use layers on that map with police locations and aircraft routes? Why cannot see those " marks" on a black screen (no map)

Own speed cameras list is planned. Currently on 2.3.1 or 2.3.2 (should take 2-4 weeks to beta from now).

Regarding GMaps, I use GMaps API to draw the markers as well. Also, it takes some geometry computations, and handles all user interactions. Basically, I say "draw these markers at those coordinates" and the GMaps API does the rest (transform geo coords to screen location, handle touch features, etc)

Is anyone else finding that when HR 2.2.2 is running, Waze has difficulty accessing the GPS and positions update every 10 seconds or so, and are typically not accurate? I noticed it in previous versions as well, but thought it was an issue with Waze on Android Auto not getting a good GPS signal, as my cell phone is in the armrest cubby when using AA.

However, I've no confirmed even when not using AA, Waze has the same issues getting locations only when HR is running. Only once I noticed a message on Waze that it couldn't access the GPS. I'm running a Samsung 8 (SM-G950W) with Android ver. 9.

Can you try toggling "Use Google location services" in General settings of the HR. It may help.

Tried it just now sitting here and both apps seem to work fine regardless if Location Services in HR is turned on or not.

I will give that a try next time I'm out and about and see if makes any difference when I'm on the move. I'll also see if it makes a difference if one app is started before the other in the event one is grabbing the GPS and not sharing in the sandbox.

With COVID I've stayed pretty much house bound, but I will update you either way once I have the need to go for a drive. It'll be a toss up between the need for more toilet paper or rum that causes me to get of my butt ;-)

A little update here, I've released the app to the public channel so it should be available to everyone now.

I've been unable to get any aircraft data all morning on 2.2.2. Crowdsourced data is coming through okay.
