So I'm driving down the highway way and I get a bleep from Ka 34.725 is there any way this could be a false?? It seems to be happening a lot the last two weeks for me in different areas that 34xxx would have never come up bc the Leo's don't run 34.xxx. They run 35.xxx or 33.xxx..

I'm no expert, but I doubt that it's a false. Only falses I've had have been on 33.8(and that has not happened in awhile). Maybe some of the testers can chime in.

R series detectors can false to Ka band from BSMs. Segment 6 seems to be where they happen the most (34.8xx), but I have seen one or two fall lower into the 34.7xx area.

As others have mentioned above, it's possible it was a false. However, I think it's unlikely. More likely an off-axis pickup from a legitimate Ka radar source. I get them ALL THE TIME - I'd say at least half the Ka pickups I get are weak signals where I never spot the threat. The R series is just so sensitive that you will pick it up if there is a Ka gun anywhere in the vicinity.

I get those 34.7 beeps now and then and it's probably legit, could be a LEO 3 miles away. Every time I leave our condo parking lot I pickup 33.8 from a satellite dish. At least these alerts let you know that your detector is working.

Home satellite systems sometimes cause Unidens to false. @Brainstorm69
That's good to know. I get a 33.xxx hit on the same onramp everyday on my way home from work. There is no PD in the area that use that radar, but it is right next to some houses that are very close. I get a quick blast of 2-3 bars and then it's gone as soon as I drive about 50 feet. I'll bet it's home satellite. I'll have to look at the roofs next time I drive by.

Thank you, it's been driving me crazy trying to figure out what it could be.

Thought that I would add that my V1 and Radenso XP never pick up that satellite dish that I mentioned in post #8. The R3 definitely has much better sensitivity to KA band.

Which highway and entrance/exit number is it? I'll pay attention next time I'm in the area. I have about 4 spots I regularly pickup falses right at or near ramps and overpasses. One in Davis county near Bountiful on I-15, Two in South Salt Lake around 7800? South and 4600? South on I-15, and one spot down in Utah County at the Pleasant Grove I-15 overpass Entrance/Exit ramp.

The only false I got in the 34.x range was high, 34.89x near a toll plaza

I get the same one for sure on I-15 by Pleasant Grove, drove by it today.... but seeing as how it is also the most patrolled stretch of I-15 (I see at least 4 troopers doing radar EVERY trip from the point to Utah Valley Medical Center) I take every hit very seriously through there!

Where is the hit in Bountiful? That is my home stomping grounds and I think I get something right around Center Street in North Salt Lake. I don’t recall the two in South Salt Lake Valley, but I’ll pay more attention.

The one by my work is the Northbound on-ramp from 700 North to I-215. I initially thought it would be from all of the defense contractor satellites or maybe aviation stuff (there is a frequent false right but my station, but I think it’s from all of the ground radar equipment they installed on our station roof to track airplanes.) But I typically only get it on the East side of 215 by the houses and it ends before I get onto the freeway proper.

@V1Jake

Here are two different locations I have to manually lock out non-threat Ka signal sources. I have had to lock them out on every detector that supports Ka lockouts. My Uniden R3 and R7 pick them up even with Ka Filter: On, as does my V1 with V1 Driver. My Escort detectors also pick them up, even with RDR active (where applicable). Depending the specific detector being used and the outdoor temperature, the detected frequency can identify in range from 33.746 to 33.752.

My R7 is turning out to be a false alert machine on Ka. Newer problem. More and more newer vehicles that trigger it in 35.xxx, 34.xxx. Ambulances, Semis, CT6, and other of the newest vehicles. They are not likely real Ka BSM. Something is getting inside the plastic box of the R7, or maybe harmonic of 77ghz (But then math does not add up on some of these). I run the RDF Indiana settings for Ka. IN chart has more segments than just 2-5-8 due to personal and others experience with semi rare out of tune radar.

sorry for crappy hand help pics. The display might not show due to the slow scan of the OLED on/off cycles of the R7. The ambulance and CT6 triggered within couple minutes of each other. All told yesterday, had 7 Ka false alerts. A new high.
