I usually don't run into cops roaming in this area with radar.
What do you folks think of the detection range here on the Uniden R1?
Also excuse me, I like to talk to myself when I'm driving it seems haha

That was actually a very poor detection if the LEO was running his front antenna. The ramp-up suggests it wasn't an I/O shot, maybe rear antenna C/O?
Or perhaps he I/O'd the guy in front of me?

I can say with 99% confidence if he I/O'd the guy in front of you the R1 would've gone instant full tilt alert.
Interesting...
Time to send the R1 away on warranty? haha

I don't have experience with ultra sensitive detectors, but could the small hill and the fact that the LEO was with his front antena faced towards the right side (where there are no buildings, and just a few things that reflect radar) could have been at play?

Hard to say.
This area is quite a curvy and hilly road, so I could certainly see this reducing range.
That said, this area had a pretty gentle slope and was quite straight.
A little odd that the detection range was not better.
That said, I still notice pretty decent performance from the R1. I will soon have a Stalker Dsr so I will use this to test the capabilities of the R1.

Is it possible that he just turned on his radar as the car ahead of you came around the corner towards him? Maybe you picked up the hit right as it started and then of course it ramped right up. It looks to me like you were a bit off axis right at the start as you were both starting the curve from opposite ways. Also, it could have been a rear shot I guess.

I have an R series and I am going to say there is absolutely no way an I/O shot against the leading car would have registered as that weak of a signal on a functioning unit. Either it was a rear shot or I’d be worried about that detector.

I just listened to the audio again, it announced 34.674. 99% of the time on the Stalkers in Utah, that would be the rear antenna being used. I could totally see it responding that way if that was the case. There are always outliers, but it seems pretty standard out here that 34.7xx is front and 34.6xx is rear.

Interesting observation. I haven’t noticed any such trend with NJSP or NYSP’s Stalker Duals - both antennas are all over the place. That might be the case in Utah, but isn’t the OP in Canada?
