I have signs that dont detect, and I dont care. I spent a few days trying to figure out one local sign
Anyone who raises these questions should buy or borrow a K and Ka gun, and play around with it.... Only then will you realize how your RD works, and how it should alert to actual radar guns, or identify issues with your RD CONSISTANTLY...
I certainly don't care enough to spend time that goes beyond reading and replying to this thread I posted.
And, if you don't mind, please condecend to me a little more and tell me how borrowing or buying a K or KA gun would help me understand why this speed sign is invisible?

The technology is different...not identical to LEO's radar. IIRC, it was Hugel who went into depth about the technical differences. Maybe someone knows where that thread is?

Again, these newest signs cannot be used to gage a detectors ability.

Ya I hear you. If you have other sources that continually show lockout like before, I wouldn’t overly worried about it.

Since those signs aren’t use for enforcement they could be all over the place.

I only get concerned when 10 others detect it and show it in range and 1 all of a sudden doesn’t.

I have a gauntlet of 8 of these signs within 1 mile of my house. Takes me 5 minutes to run through them all. I usually run each detector through the gauntlet right after a FW update just to see if it reacts differently than before.

Some of the speed signs also gather information like average speed, traffic flow/time of day.... blah blah blah. The information can be downloaded by BT or wifi. Powered by hardwire, solar, or battery packs that can last 14 days depending on use.

if there’s irregularities, then I break out the guns.

I have these signs all over my city. Neither my V1 or Escort 360 will detect them. They are solar powered and you can see a little blue light in the display. Their not used for speed enforcement.

I’d take the filtering off the V1 just to see what the sign is transmitting.

I don’t have a lot of faith with the 360 series after the last FW update. My 360C is all over the place with them. Alerting even if locked out. Locked out. Totally oblivious that it’s even there at times.

Noticed a new speed sign this evening and my R3 didn't alert to it at all.
I changed some settings before I turned back to see if it would detect it.

I turned X band on, MRCD on, K block off, K filter off, running K wide, KA wide , KA filter off, Laser on but still no alert to the sign.
Anyone know anything about this sign? It has a blueish led flashing just below dead center. View attachment 139649View attachment 139650

I can sure understand your concern.... when my R3 was brand new I took a road trip to Southern Utah which is normally a Ka dream of hits from both Highway Patrol and some Sheriff’s deputies. I didn’t see a single officer on the 260 mile plus trip during daylight. So no Ka hits at all. I’m thinking , well that was unusual not to see anyone out.

Then I pull into St. George to the first golf course of my trip and come across a sign just like you saw and NOTHING!! It’s clocking my speed and my R3 is just blinking at me pissing me off. Before I turn off the ignition at the parking lot I’m undoing every setting on my detector to FIX the problem of the quiet detector.

When I leave the course, I go past the the same detector (2 actually, n on each side of the road) and NOTHING! Now I’m super frustrated thinking my brand new detector has gone blind.

I get on I-15 headed for Mesquite for the next golf stop and BAM I/O Ka warning from almost 2 miles to the hiding trooper. Since then I’ve learned that there is no problem with my detector, I’ve even had a couple legit good saves on K band.

My experience has been about 25% of the speed signs (some pole mounted, other times trailers) just don’t activate my R7 or R3. Vortex did explain it was a modulation issue in some cases which is great because I don’t want to hear radar sources that can’t technically be used against me. And in some cases it is an out of tune radar for any number of reasons. (Weather, battery low etc. )

Enjoy the RD, the more I use mine the better I understand what it’s trying to tell me.

There’s a speed sign in a nearby neighborhood that my R1 will not detect. There’s a local grocery store called Harris Teeter that has automatic doors that my R1 will not alert to. These obviously operate outside the range of police frequencies.

if this is a data collecting radar gun, it’s usually because of Citizen complaints of speeding. It’ll go out for a short period of time, collect data and then decisions will be made by the city on traffic enforcement, reducing the speed limit, or traffic calming devices like speed bumps in the neighborhood. Most city engineering departments will require data before they will spend taxpayer money on speed bumps or other things a neighborhood will request.

I may have missed this I’ll go back and re-read, is this in a neighborhood or out on the main road? If it’s in a neighborhood, the subdivision HOA probably is aware if it’s presence.

I don't know much about electronics, but one thing I do know, my V1 doesn't pick up speed signs that have those blue dots. I hope the Highway Patrol doesn't put blue dots on their radar guns. I'm toast if they do.

It's on a curve of a main road right at the 1st entrance to a church parking lot.

I wasn't concerned about my R3 because it had been alerting to KA multiple times throughout the day and also only a few minutes before I encountered the new speed sign.
I was only curious to know what makes that particular speed sign "invisible."

You should be happy with the filter unless you insist on getting alerted to every Walgreens and gas stations.
50% of the stationary motion sensors are pulsed and the filter ignores the pulsed signals. Police radar is not pulsed so you should be covered against real threats

Mind sharing where? PM if necessary. I’ll be running around SA tomorrow for a bit. If I’m nearby I’ll run past it.
Exactly at the dropped pin on the attached screen shot. 2nd pic is Street View before speed sign was added.

I know exactly where that is. Almost bought a house this fall right there in Colonial Oaks just a couple blocks down. I should be able to drive by tomorrow. I’ll try to remember to grab the R3 (1.50) and maybe even the WB Mag on the way out in the morning.

Yeah, pretty much cant pick these up - freaked me out when I encountered one in my neighborhood, thinking there was some new founded radar the cops had come out with.
Yeah, I hate to admit it but that was my initial thought as well.

I'm sure hat's how a lot of dedicated users feel at first. It drove me crazy while I ran the different settings to try to figure out what was going on... just shows you want to find out what's going on and better understand it. Those that have done it before you, just want to save you the grief and cut to the chase....

R3 and Magnum packed as well as my Falcon HR as a sanity check. I’ll swing by sometime after lunch.
No V1 with you? The last one I saw with this non-alert issue would only be detected by the V1 with all filters off, or the Pro M with all filters of, and only at a very short distance even then. Even with al filters off the R series couldn't detect it. Maybe the Magnum will be able to. I didn't test against a legacy Escort detector.

It’s permanently mounted on my headliner. I didn’t need to grab it since it’s already there ;)

I had very little time, but no matter what I did with the R3 (known working great) I couldn’t get it to alert. I couldn’t figure out how to change the settings on the Magnum to enable K, turn off TFS, etc. And I didn’t have time to mess with the V1 configuration. Nothing alerted. I did take these pics of the stickers on the sign, though. We’ll see if this helps.
