Hello guys and gals, of the RDF community..
Check it out.... my R3 seems to be in most cases out performing my R7. Now I could be wrong but in my opinion it seems to be a little stronger, now I've actually put the R3 back in my work pickup to play with it, since I drive that the majority of the time, and I will try to measure distances. We have here in Virginia stationary KA band radar guns/signs that stay in the same spot all the time... I'm gonna check for a comparison then I'll do a video and post it up... When I test the units one will be powered on at a time, I will not be running both at the same time.. you guys gimme some feedback if you dont mind on how your R1 or R3 stack up against your R7.. thanks oh the radar signs are 34.7 KA.....

Walter,

Can you live without the arrows on the R7? I know I can’t. I have a R3 too in another car, but I want my arrows. Lol.

Love to see the videos.

I only have the R1 but i do know that stationary KA signs are an unreliable source of testing.
Ok thanks, for letting me know..

Absolutely I can live without arrows, check it out I was so impressed with the R3 I ordered a second one, however they accidentally sent me an R7. So you know I felt like I got over so I was glad. Lol!! 🤣🤣 Now it might backfire LOL.. they might have sent me an underperforming unit.. Ha,Ha,ha.. plus the GPS keeps malfunctioning it keeps saying gps errors

Ouch. That’s not a good. Could be a bummer unit. You might can get Uniden to look at it. Don’t get me wrong of live my lil R3. It was my first. Of Uniden’s brand. Thanks to watching and studying on Vortex’s website and following folks on here.

My R7 smokes my 2 R3s on the test I setup with my Kustom. I've always thought I could just "tell" how hot each of my RDs are, but really you can't until you setup a controlled test. I didn't think my R7 was that special and I would have bet that my R3s would run with it or maybe bested it. I setup a pretty hard test and my R7 was beating the R3s by about 1000 ft. I would bet you will be surprised if you do the same.

My data is all speculation, no real testing or hard facts.
In my experience, I get longer range KA alerts from the R7 but I get longer range K alerts from the R1. I am speculating this based on actual detections observed repeatedly at random with varying conditions.

These things run hot and cold. The smallest manufacturing tolerances and faults can mean differences in each component. You can buy 2 that were built back to back and they could have different performance values.

There exists variation in the sensitivity of any RD model, ie some R7s are more sensitive than others. It wouldn't surprise me if a "hot" R3 was more sensitive than a "colder" R7, but with how sensitive the platform is in general you would likely need a good radar course to demonstrate the difference between the two in any meaningful distance.

Best way to find out. Can't make comparison in real world scenario's due to too many factors involved.

There's been a lot of testing, which you can see in the testing area, that shows that the R7 has consistently better (though not by a huge amount) sensitivity than the R1 and R3. it's been corroborated by many different sources in controlled tests against real police radar guns on a variety of test courses.

Opinions and speculation aside, more testing is always welcome! Just try to make sure the methodology is sound.

Testing against LEO's in the field is really only good for anecdotal information. Speed signs that contain police radar guns are probably the only good way to do it without having your own gun. Other speeds signs could fall victim to filtering routines on various detectors. Even with a good speed sign, you have no control over the course which is JUST as important as terrain limitations can render a course completely useless for testing.
