Get RCM or wait for Theia

Hey all. Just wondered what you would do here. Was going to pull the trigger on RCM/ALP combo recently but then learned how great Theia is supposed to be. Would you wait?

I really wanted something stealth and integrated with laser. Knowing Theia is dash mounted isn’t the end of the world if it’s 100x better.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Get the RCM in the meantime, you don’t want to be unprotected while waiting. You can always sell the RCM and buy Theia once released.

Do you have anything you are using now? I'd recommend waiting but if you have nothing, that may be another story. If nothing else consider picking up a used R3 or similar for the time being. You really can't go wrong with the RCM and AlPs, but with Theia being a game changer, I'd want to look at that first.

My advice would be to get the ALP and an inexpensive windshield mount detector for now. There's not a big advantage in an RCM versus a much less expensive detector if you're waiting for Theia anyway, so you can definitely save your money there.

The other guys are more experienced but I would vote RCM if its in your budget. An integrated detector is a great choice if you can do it. Theia may very well be the end all-be all but there is no date announced and it has not been tested by regular use yet. The biggest thing you gain by waiting is a detector that has the potential to be quiet until it picks up something real. Sounds fantastic and I look forward to that but if its going to be a while and you want stealth its not going to offer that. It will be in your windshield unlike the RCM. Option 2 as above is hold out with another windshield until the release then decide what to do. There are several great options on the market at the moment.

Thanks for replies. I like idea of doing ALP now as laser is much more common in my area (dc,va,md) than radar. Then wait for Theia.

One thought, what about stand alone AL P and rock a Pro M on the windshield until Theia comes out? Pro M rocks for MRCD/T which you have in your neck of the woods and it's stealth for when you're cruising through VA?

Regardless, don't drive nekkid!

Depends on your needs. If you want a concealed system Theia is going to be a windshield detector so it will not fit your bill. Sure they will eventually make a remote version as well but we are still some time away from the windshield version which is their first product on the new platform. The remote version will be much longer wait than that. If you want a concealed system then get the RCM now and you will be protected. If you decide to upgrade later the ALP can always be used on its own or I am sure they will also find a way to connect a Theia to an ALP to keep it integrated.

This is what I would do.

I currently only have a pro M and plan on getting theia. But if theia is crazy expansive ($cnd). I might just opt for a 5 head alp laser system and run the pro M

I’d get the RCM/ALP combo.

Besides being stealth and great range is you don’t have to worry about it getting stolen, or taking it down every time you leave your car.

When Theia eventually comes out, you can always use the RCM as your display for your ALP laser protection or sell the RCM and just pick up a hi-fi or BT module for the ALP.

Is pro m and RCD basically same receiver other than remote aspect?

so far I’ve been back on forth on this 3 times today. Lol.
Thanks for ideas everyone.

I recently did the RCM / ALP option and very pleased with it. I got tired of waiting "two weeks" to upgrade my windshield mount radar. I have no regrets as its range is so much better and its quieter. Hopefully, there could be a future upgrade of the RCM to make it Theia compatible...... but until then I have really good protection. :)

Yes and no.

It has better range because the horn (antenna) is much bigger than the Pro-M.

Also if you get the 2nd antenna for the rear, you have arrows.

Same goes if you get a full ALP set up front and back. The display shows if your hit from the back or front. It tells you what gun your hit with and displays it on the RC-M display.

I like having the display that controls and shows both the Radar and Lidar I one small package. The remote speaker is much louder than the Pro-M’s and you can place

It’s a really nice set up. Out of all of the remote systems, what it can do, how it can pair with ALP, stand alone without phone pairing, customer support and updates, It’s pretty tough to beat.

If you are going ALP and want a remote the Netradar DSP add on is a great option too (performance, price and simplicity). It has some features that have made it my favorite detector at the moment.

Without the need for remote radar option then I would go with a windshield unit until it can be replaced with Theia, a windshield unit. Don't go unprotected...

I suspect the boys at Radenso are going to be mad at me for this, but on this topic I'm pretty passionate about.

Bolding for effect.

I really really really love my RCM. It does, quite literally, an amazing job 99.9% of the time. I totally get that Theia is beyond this universe life changing and can do a lot of amazing things which literally no product, including the RCM, can do today but call me an old hack, I'm just not that big of a gadget person. So when the Theia 'concealed' version comes out, sure, I'll switch to that but it's not even a budgetary thing that stops me from jumping, it's a "I'm a lazy SOB and don't want to rerun wires" sort of reason which will probably cause me to stick with the RCM for a while. That said, if Radenso makes Theia remote in such a way that the cable that goes through the firewall is the same (between the CPU and the radar antenna), then I'll switch to Theia in about 0.5 microseconds. However, I don't think that will be the case (just a guess) which may cause me to have to completely reinstall everything which will, undoubtedly, cause me to be an angrypenguin :(

All of that being said, if I didn't have the RCM installed, I would no doubt jump on Theia if Theia was available in remote form today.

So to answer the OP's question, no doubt I would buy the RCM now, and run it for a while. It does a great job at, well, being a RD. Could it be better? Sure, but for all intents and purposes I am absolutely thrilled with the RCM.

If you can swing the cost, at least wait a few months to see where Theia goes
It'll be a game changing detector!

I needed a detector last summer with a new vehicle. Considered the RCM but with the Theia buzz sounding so good I balked. Instead I picked up a Pro. Nice detector and I'm quite happy with it. When a Theia replacement comes for the RCM I'll be very interested. One thing I picked up in the videos is that Theia will or can have Wifi. With Wifi the front/rear detectors could only need power and that means a big reduction in wiring. Moving forward with fingers crossed ....

I vote for a WS detector for now until Theia, simply for cost savings you can put towards the new game changer when released.
Plus a WS mount is more versatile for moving car to car or new vehicle.
Pro M is a great choice for stealth. It is small, compact and light so it can go in a pocket or purse easily if you take it out when parked.
Look up all the stealthy ways to mount a Pro M for discreet protection.
An R7 has more protection factor but is less stealthy and size can make it obvious when mounted.
If you can afford an ALP system then you probably can choose any WS detector on the market without stress.
