Note that Vortex doesn't run a V1 daily like a lot of us do. (He hasn't for a while.) He has to keep track of multiple units from multiple manufacturers.

  • Reset to factory
  • Turn off X-band if you are able
  • Enable the K-band muting features you want
  • Make sure TMF2 is on
  • Turn off Ka guard
  • Select your desired mode of A,l, or L and enjoy.

Yeah fundamentally choosing settings for the V1 isn't radically different than other detectors. Disable X band, turn on the K filters, disable the Ka filters, and that's the core. The V1 does offer some additional unique K band filtering/muting options that you can tune to your liking of course, but that's the gist of it.

You may also consider turning on Ka guard to cut down on Cobra falses since you don't have a frequency display without a phone to verify, but you will reduce performance otherwise.

I don't regularly run a V1 like @Bloovy One mentioned, but the detector also hasn't changed in years. The big changes are things like more cars on the road now with BSM's so TMF2 is no longer optional, plus the addition of apps like JBV1 which open up a completely new world of options, but those won't apply if you're running the V1 standalone.

Oh, Savvy is helpful for low speed muting if you don't plan on integrating with a phone.

Yeah it is for sure. But i use a iPhone and JBV1 is in another league compared to the iPhone app they have. Plus I plan on switching to theia when it comes out. I've ran the V1 since 2016 and really have no complaints.

I hear ya. I’ve been running the V1 today with V1Driver after having our discussion here. I like the audible announcements from the phone, autolockouts in the background, and Apple Watch integration, but JBV1 is on another level.

I’m glad Theia is planned on supporting iOS and Android apps too. :)

Another thing is when i purchased this 4 years ago, i have used vortex's settings from day one and I've picked up KA. I mean i don't think I'm that dumb to not realize 34.7 is not operating correctly but who knows. After i factory reset it and tweaked the settings I'm getting a big A as the letter that's on the screen. I've noticed Im getting a lot more K falses then I was before. Only drove about 20 miles or so and did not see any police yet. But so far the detector seems more responsive to K then it was before the reset.

The letter is a small u.
If the detector was showing 'small u' before, you had K band disabled. Running in All Bogeys mode (big A) will certainly give you more falses. Long press the button on the detector to toggle to logic mode (L) to help cut down some of the falses.

If you carefully follow the instructions here and change option 7 to down arrow to enable K band muting logic, you'll have a much better experience: http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/techreport3.asp

I recommend you delve into the V1 manual and the V1 forum here for a bit when you have time to better understand the detector and help get it dialed in to you liking.

Don't worry too much about that. :) As InsipidMonkey outlined early on, in eUro mode the Ka frequencies being detected are partially what you needed, just not the full range of what's used in the US. I'm just glad you aren't reporting any tickets from the last 4 years. :)

I've used the forum not to tak about a issue but to research things. and what i thought were good settings were clearly not lol. I'm no expert for sure that why this forum is the best in the business for radar. But for roughly four years of following vortex's settings and no speeding tickets. Especially in the update area where most is 35.5 and 34.7, I guess Im extremely lucky or the cops feel bad for me lmao. @InsipidMonkey whatdo you mean when you say long press are you talking in the settings menu going through the following numbers and letters ?

He's referring to long pressing the mute button to change modes.
The same way you get from A (for All signals) to small L (for logic mode) or big L (for Advanced Logic mode). :)

In euro mode or custom mode long pressing the mute button alternates K-band off and on.

Press the knob/button in and hold it for a couple seconds and it will switch to whatever mode you’re in with or without K-band. So in C mode (custom Ka sweeps with K-band) press and hold to switch to c mode (custom Ka sweeps, no K-band), or U (K) or u (no K), etc.

So after using the V1 for a couple of days or so it's fully operational and back to what it was. Testing with the R7 it proved it's actually not to far off from the sensitivity and range i expected from the R7 within 2 to 3 seconds the V1 was behind. Only tested 34.7 on the thruway but definitely impressed once again thanks for the input and advice.
