THP on I-26 - No Longer Using Ka?

The Tennessee Highway Patrol seems to have changed their strategy at the exact same time I upgraded from a Escort 9500IX to a Redline EX.

Unfortunately, I drive from Johnson City, TN to Asheville, NC for work. Until recently I could count on all the THP Explorers (stopped and driving) to reliably transmit Ka which the 9500iX would pick up in plenty of time, I would slow momentarily and continue my drive. Now I can only count on the Unicoi County Sheriff Explorers to have Ka in constant use. I haven't heard a peep from the Redline due to a THP in weeks.

So my question is, are they using I/O Ka or Laser now? Neither is fun to defend and I do not have a jammer so I am hoping they are using I/O. Regardless, I have not been in the vicinity of a fellow speeder when they nab a victim for me to get an idea of what their new tactic is. Does anyone else operate in NE TN and have any insight as to the THP course of action? Thanks.

Changing their strategy at the same exact time you change detectors would be very strange indeed, but it's certainly possible.
Another possibility is you may be encountering some out-of-tune guns that your Red line EX is not picking up that your 9500IX would pick up because it was sweeping the entire ka-band. I doubt if this is the case but I would check your settings for KA on your Redline EX. This would include
do you have your Redline EX segmented and if so what's segs are you running? If you don't have 2 4 5 6 and 8 on, I would suggest trying that for a while. This would certainly eliminate you missing any out of tune guns. If you already have those enabled then my next guess would be they are just using more instant on then usual.

Another thing to consider is the weather. I noticed when it's bitterly cold or rainy they don't shoot near as much radar as when it's sunny and 72. reason being they don't give a crap if you're speeding they're not getting out in The frigid cold to write you up over it lol.

I'm on the opposite end of the state. I typically see 34.7 C/O but not in the last week or so even when parked in the median. I think its the cold to be honest. Once it warms up it should get back to normal. I don't have anything for laser yet either so it could be that and I would not know but I don't think so at this point. I don't even hear them when they are moving and pass by.

Side note, sort of funny, LEO was behind my wife last night at a stoplight. Her detector was quiet then went full signal then quiet then full signal and stopped again once they pulled away. I think he could see it through her rear window and was playing with it. Ha. Its next to the mirror but you can still see it if you're lookin gin the back.

I would agree, it's probably weather related. I drive on average about 3000 miles a week and I see a noticeable difference in the amount of activity when it's nice weather compared to cold or rainy. If the weather's been crap for a week or so and then you have a few days of nice sunny weather it's like my radar detectors are going off Non-Stop lol

In the last 30 days there's been less radar used. (Ka is the red dots) No lidar that I've detected. (Those would be white) Occasional LEOs spotted. (Blue dots)

FWIW, it looks like there's been a little bit of K-band in that map as well. (Orange) I have seen a noticeable increase in LEO K-band use during the last 18-24 months in Eastern TN.

I was mentioning to @GlockChevy not too long ago that THP traffic control has been basically non-existent for months. Having said that, I was behind a THP trooper running rolling I/O on a county road the other day, so obviously they still do run traffic, but overall, it has been very lax lately.

Oklahoma is making up for the lack of enforcement in TN. Just on my way to drop off my trailer, on i40 wb, trooper in Tahoe shooting a XLR. EB, trooper in Silverado working DOT stops. Finally, i44 EB, OKpd motos out in full force with XLRs and TSSs. All in 27 degree weather. Make things better, I'm naked until hopefully, end of Friday.

I thought the timing of the change was odd as the first time it happened I rolled past one on the roadside at 15 over near the state line. My first thought was the Redline was a POS!! It later worked great in NC and town so I didn't give up on it. I will double check the segments this evening, thanks for the tip!

THP is like the quick fad that comes and goes, sometimes it is a disco party throughout and the next it is WV highway patrol lol.
