I am getting a GPS error on my R3 now. It’s not the placement because I connected it outside the car door and still keeps saying GPS error. I tried updating the software in and out of recovery mode but it won’t complete. Fails when it gets to the GPS part of the update.

I just wanted to see if anyone could chime in. I know the next option is probably to set up a repair with Uniden. Unfortunately I’m out of warranty. I was about to sell the R3 because I picked up another R7 for a great deal, but now I’m getting this GPS error on the R3. I wasn’t sure if anyone would buy a detector that has a GPS issue so probably better to pay the repair costs with Uniden and then sell the R3 when it is fixed or replaced.

Other than doing a factory reset now, you will probably need to send it in...
Yeah did a bunch of factory resets and that doesn’t correct the GPS error and I can’t do recovery mode on the software without it failing. Guess I’ll just send it in to Uniden.

Are using the cord that came with it. Using an Escort hardwire kit, I was having the same issue.

It is using the same power cord that I’ve been using forever with it working. I even tried the Uniden plug that came with it when trying to put it outside of the car window to see if it could get a GPS signal. The fact that it won’t update or recover correctly and fails at the GPS, makes me believe something is messed up with the GPS all of a sudden.

With my R7, GPS errors were caused by power issues.... In the end I had to get a new power cord.

If you have a volt meter check the power first. Otherwise sending it in is your only recourse.

I’ve tried 4 total power sources and two of them being direct Uniden power cables. Nothing unfortunately, but appreciate everyone’s input. I’ll just set up a repair with Uniden. Just sucks because I was about to sell the R3 and keep the second R7 I bought but probably going to have to return the R7 since I have to pay to get my R3 fixed.

You may want to check the RJ11 jack. It does not stay put overtime specially if you take the R3 from it's mount often. Had to replace mine within months of using it.

I sent it in to Uniden. Thanks everyone
All the suggestions for the power cord sound good however, when you stated that during the update it would freeze on the GPS portion tells me that your GPS chip is probably fried. Sending it in was a good thing

My R7 was doing the same thing as your R3. Because of your post I exchanged it while it was still in the return period and got a new one. No problems with the new one at all. The bad one started doing it with 1 day but I just figured it was having trouble finding satellites..... now I’m pretty sure it was a faulty chip.

Thanks for passing on the info!
