So I want to wire in a Uniden DFR7 and I have looked around at some options.
There is Marc http://www.marcparnes.com/Visual_Alert.htm
I would just go with this but I would like to see if I can make a more modern DFR7 Work.
  • Escort® 8500ci/9500ci do not have an earphone jack but can be wired direct to the speaker via a pigtail.
  • Escort S75G, MAX, iX, MAX 2, MAX 360, Redline EX, The New Escort (41744) and Escort Bluetooth (1620x50) use a custom 6 LED Visual Alert when wired direct to the speaker via a pigtail.
So I normally listen to USB Audio from an Ipod on the Bike. Sometimes the phone is also connected Blue tooth and I can switch mack and forth. Both cant run at the same time.

This is how far I get with the DFR7.
  1. Wired into battery. 3.5 jack to speaker wire - Easy option not sure if it will work good or cause feedback.
  2. Wired into battery. 3.5 jack to Bluetooth transmitter. First of all I dont think the bike can handle 2 Bluetooth inputs. Phone and Radar input so that cant work.
  3. Before I ask Marc I wanted to check here first. 3.5 to speaker is hopefully an option but I have no Idea what is would sound like. Or if the connection would cause noise with the Radio and Amp being used.
  4. AUX input. I have to study that because I am not sure how that works on this Motorcycle. I dont see an input and really have no clue about that.
  5. The Visual alert isnt that important to me and the sound is.
  6. Thanks

OK no edit button? Marc has a Uniden R1/R3/R7/DFR7/DFR9 uses a custom 4 LED Visual Alert when wired direct to the speaker via a pigtail. I think I will just go with his wire and give up on modding something else. Would still like to hear and experience with this kind of setup.

I am planning on using an Amplirider to feed phone and rd into earbuds. The problem is the R1 has such low sound output that even at full volume it is difficult for me to hear above the music. I talked to Gary who makes them. He sent me another with a volume control for 1 line so I can crank the RD higher than the other inputs. Cant tell you how it works yet because I have not had a chance to try it yet.

I found out this would work for two inputs as well. I like the sound of an amped signal into the speakers. That way I can use USB input instead of being forced on Bluetooth.
I would like to know how it works. ty

Id most likely have to install a small speaker for it too. I would expect trouble hooking this up to speakers that are already being feed a 100 watt amped signal.

I may have to go this route as the Uniden just doesnt have a strong enough output to hear the RD alerts above the music. I think the Sena shuts down the tunes when the RD alerts.

http://www.marcparnes.com/Visual_Alert.htm Marc didn't give specifics but I think that is how it works. In fact he feels most think the visual alert is enough, no audio needed.

The DFR7 is only $137 bucks on ebay Uniden refurbished. I just got one and it looks new. 90 day warranty. Marc solders in a pigtail for the Visual Alert wire. You will need to wire the power direct to the battery and not a cig lighter. Marc has the details.
