FWIW - after I moved my R3 from one location to another, I discovered that the proximity sensor on my Google Pixel 2 and now Pixel 3 would set off the laser. It seems that the angle of where my phone was mounted was a pretty good line of sight to my R3. I ended up moving the R3 back to its original location, and no more laser falsing.

I'm not saying this is what is happening with you, but some proximity sensors in some phones must be in the infrared spectrum and are pulsed at a rate that the R3 thinks is a LIDAR pulse.

My iPhone would regularly set off my Valentine One’s laser detection. Both were inside a tank bag on a motorcycle, so there was no way the V1 was “seeing” any real laser hits.
