As the title suggests is there a way to turn that start up sound off?

Not without a fimware change. Unless it really bugs you in which case you could pop the top and put a delay relay in series with the speaker wire.

As the OP inquires, this is a feature I would certainly like to see in a future FW. Maybe different options -

  • Voice “System On/Armed”;
  • a single beep;
  • no audible alert.

No, this is there for confirmation of the system being on.
If there was enough interest could they add an option to turn it off?

I really do not find it annoying, though I have found a kick to a wire, or something else, the TMG may not be on.. or when I do use JBV1, I miss that it was on. For a two sec notifier, rather have vs not... since no other indicator like an independent LED on the dash or other area to know, as it is an AIO setup.

Turn the volume down on the CPU and use JBV1 for louder and very visible alerts.

I do have my CPU announce when it comes on FWIW as part of my "pre-flight-procedures". Once JBV1 connects, it reduces the CPU volume automatically.

Does anyone want to see what a JBV1 alert looks like for TMG? I can do a quick demo.

Funny how we all like different things! I actually get a kick out of hearing "system on". It lets me know my system is on without me having to open my console and look, since that's where my CPU is hidden!

Thinking the exact same thing! I like the reminder that it's powered up. Although in fairness, I also leave self test on on my detectors and the start up noise on my dash cam on. I prefer audible confirmation that my systems are on.

Here's the small demo video. A couple of notes:

Normally I'd have the TMG come on the same time as my V1 and the announcement ends up being right after the startup sounds of the detector. (All of which does not happen until I press a secret button after starting the car)
For this video, I turned off the TMG with my kill switch and started the recording first with JBV1 already running and then turned the TMG kill switch back on.

I also demonstrated what the TMG interface looks like. When TMG connects to JBV1, JBV1 is set to mute the CPU. I show what happens when changing modes with, and without CPU audio. Note that I have my receive only mode set to 15MPH.

Finally, I show back and front alerts. All audio is generated by JBV1 for those. If I'd not had my phone turned on or with me (Which never happens) the TMG CPU would have made noises instead.

Thanks for your efforts and time here in assembling that demo. Really neat stuff!

I am just not sold on running two phones as a I have an iPhone & use CarPlay. I have been tempted to give it a try (I do have a droid laying around)...
