1. What kind of vehicle you have and do you want a remote or a windshield mount? Windshield Mounted Preferred
2. What's your budget? $300 - $350 at most.
3. Where you live ( address not needed of course) and what states , country or areas you primarily drive? ( this is essential) W-NY Rochester/Syracuse Area More towards the rural area rather than city.
4. How you drive? I used to speed and enormous amount, but after common sense kicked in I tend to do +5-10 on interstates and +5-8 on local.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) we ask this because of falsing issues that exist in many areas or cities. Work is about a 15-20 minute, I take the interstate to a local expressway. Sometimes even the back roads depending on conditions.
6. How long you have been using countermeasures, if at all? Currently own a 4 year old Escort Redline.
7. Are there curves, hills, obstructions or is the area flat as a pancake. This area has a lot of trees, shops, and typically is a straight away. It may vary.
8. Are there Redlight cams/speed cams in your area and do you need / prefer a GPS enabled unit? The specific place I live no, there aren't really any cameras unless I drive into the city which is rare. I don't NEED GPS, but it would be cool.
9. Thanks to ahl: "Are you willing/do you want to use your phone to pair with the RD?" and "What kind of device do you own (iOS/Android)". There is Escort LIVE and droid only YaV1 for the V1 apps one can use to adjust their RD. There is also V1 Driver in the ios APP Store for V1 users who wish to use an Apple device. ** Note that many of these apps allow you to use the APP (either droid or Apple) to readjust your settings for the V1. Escort Live allows you to do this as well on Escort products that are LIVE compatible.
I'd prefer NOT to have an application to use with my RD, only because that is something I have to run all the time Etc. Unless I adjust it once and it's good for awhile.
10. Do you face MRCD and/or MRCT in your area? Unsure what this is.

Side note: I have been running strictly KA and Laser on the Redline my area does not frequently or at ALL use X/K Bands. I believe the Redline has 2,5,6 Freq on, but I'm doing this from memory. Still a champ, just looking to upgrade hopefully!

Thanks!

Given the tough terrain and the fact that you need Ka band only, my vote goes for the Uniden R1. It offers outstanding range (comparable to or better than your Redline), plus it's under your budget. That said, if you're running Ka only, the Redline is already a beast and I'm not sure it would really be worth upgrading in the first place. Perhaps the money would be better spent on laser jammers?

Do not segment your detector. A lot of reports and I have my own encounters of very off spec ka units in use. 34.4xx 34.9xx confirmed hits.

I'm sure the locals use K, I would be careful.

I agree that the R1/R3 are probably best and both can be found under your budget. I also wanted to point out that GPS on detectors is also used for low speed muting. So if you are in slow traffic or stopped at a light you won’t get alerts bugging you.

In the specific area I am in they use KA band 99% of the time. I've never encountered a real K band.

Not sure either, Just thought there would be 'better' detectors out there now that is a bit older. Mostly just getting a real understanding if there has been anything 'revolutionary' since I bought this one. Revolutionary might be a bit to strong of a word, but still.

No offense but if you have K turned off how would you know if they are using K? I’d at least run in city mode with TSR on if you have it.

Revolutionary changes are coming next year from Radenso but indications are that it will be above your budget.

I'm still waiting for common sense to kick in but after driving for 38+ years, I seem to get faster, not slower. Yeah, I'll be the one teaching my grandkids how to get away with driving too fast. All of my grown kids are too slow for my taste - I think that the speed gene skips a generation.

Just checking on Amazon - the Uniden R3 will fit under your budget. Prices have really been dropping and the R1/R3 have some of the best range available. Tons of information here on how to set it up for maximum performance.
