1. What kind of vehicle you have and do you want a remote or a windshield mount?
I have a 2004 Celica (bright yellow and perf modded so it draws lots of attention to itself :p ), looking for a windshield mount
2. What's your budget?
$500 give or take
3. Where you live ( address not needed of course) and what states , country or areas you primarily drive? ( this is essential)
Live in South Jersey, primarily drive I-295 + ACX + NJTP but occasionally drive GSP south of exit 40, will also on occasion drive 76/PA TP/676/95 in PA and lots of NJ back county roads. On occasion I also drive I-95 in DE.
4. How you drive?
Weather permitting I typically drive at least 10 over the limit although will usually do 80-85 on the freeways.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) we ask this because of falsing issues that exist in many areas or cities.
I have a ~9 mile daily commute that passes many shopping centers but will typically drive to my SO's house a few times a week (60 mile freeway round trip)
6. How long you have been using countermeasures, if at all?
Been using Waze for ~2 years now.
7. Are there curves, hills, obstructions or is the area flat as a pancake.
Very very few hills if any.
8. Are there Redlight cams/speed cams in your area and do you need / prefer a GPS enabled unit?
Neither are used in the majority of places I drive. I'm not really sure what benefits a GPS unit would have but I'm definitely open to consideration.
9. Thanks to ahl: "Are you willing/do you want to use your phone to pair with the RD?" and "What kind of device do you own (iOS/Android)". There is Escort LIVE and droid only YaV1 for the V1 apps one can use to adjust their RD. There is also V1 Driver in the ios APP Store for V1 users who wish to use an Apple device. ** Note that many of these apps allow you to use the APP (either droid or Apple) to readjust your settings for the V1. Escort Live allows you to do this as well on Escort products that are LIVE compatible.
A phone app sounds like it could definitely make things easier.
10. Do you face MRCD and/or MRCT in your area?
I don't believe either of these are used in my area but someone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong :)

If there was anything I missed or need to elaborate on please let me know, thank you!

Look into the Uniden R7 or Radenso Pro M. The R7 offers long range with directional arrows, while the Pro M also has good range and great BSM filtering.

There are some great deals on these detectors right now, so you should be able to get one at a great price!

I think laser is also used often in New Jersey, so you should consider investing in lidar protection as well.

Below is review of both detectors:

I've been looking at the R7, haven't even heard of the Radenso to be honest. I'll give both of those reviews a look in a bit, thanks!

From what I've seen ALP is pretty much the way to go with that?

ALP has the best protection currently available in the market. TMG is also a great option depending on your budget and what laser guns on used in your area. If you can afford it, go ALP!

+1 on the Pro M and R7 recommendation.

Locals use K and Ka band whereas the Troopers use X and Ka. The X I think is in central to south jersey. I see you are on the ACX and I think they use it there.

See if you can spend the money and get lidar defense. Lidar is used a lot. In NJ they have LTI products so TMG will work and you can get a good deal on an open box set, but if you want the best ALP is the way to go. Later on you can get rear sensors.

Solid recommendations above, and as stated know your adversary before you get to committed with any CMs.

I have been using a Radenso XP throughout SJ & EPA for three years now with great success. I run all the roads you do. I would recommend the GPS. Red light cameras are not used by law in NJ but are in abundance when you go over a bridge into PA.

Someone has an SP for sale in the classifieds. It is an XP without the GPS.

Good Luck!

Only users at beginner level or higher can access the “For sale by members” section, so he won’t be able to see it.

I had seen a few of them in Philly but it was only ever along Broad St, although IIRC they have/are adding speed cameras in work zones?

Yes, cameras will be in work zones. I have not encountered them yet.

I did drive down Roosevelt Blvd about an hour ago to check for the speed cameras but I did not see any.....

Red light cameras are on Roosevelt Blvd and many other streets. If you go over 63 west of Franklin Mills toward the Blvd you will hear the warning for the cameras on the surface street. False economy not to have GPS.

That's very good to know!

I guess at this point I would need to decide between the Pro M and the R7, but I'm struggling to find any direct comparisons between them. I'm leaning towards the R7 though cause of the arrows and button placement though but not sure if those are even valid reasons to pick one over the other LOL

Depends on your tolerance of false alerts with vehicle blind spot monitor radar. The R series struggles with this. Tweak and tweak settings help. But.... they are noisy. Same for fixed radar door openers. Those you can lock out on routine routes. Pro M is quieter On BSM But no arrows. Pro M has good range on k, Ka and X. R7 has been measured in tests here in RDF as better range than Pro M on K and Ka. In my real world driving, the R7 blows Pro M away.

I own both. Run both. For serious running, paying close attention to alert frequencies on K, R7 is my pick between the two. Your stated speeds you travel put you in a league where R7 is best. AND get laser defense as reported in your area laser use is high. You go those speeds of 15+ over (you mentioned 85), you could be cruising into upscaled tickets like reckless op. You need the range to pick up instant on radar as far out as possible. You want Max situational awareness where they are. The R7 does that. With R7, run its fabulous display red/orange. Least fading and burn in color with Uniden OLED design. Pro M OLED runs orange only. No fading.

I run Max 360c or GT360 total of 2/3rd of the time. R7 most of the rest (with ProM too). Others in my work and personal family use my inventory daily. Anyway, I grow tired of dealing with BSM, and I want arrows. That is why the 360 series get the nod most the time. Good performance, without the blind spot headaches. But.... I “accidentally“ run 8-12 over when using them. On occasion, 15+. The 360s do well in with decent density traffic environment. When out in the boonies, traveling at quick pace, light traffic, nothing better right now than the R7. And it’s gets the nod routinely.

Many RDF folks will look in horror that I brought up the 360c. I added it just in case one day you might grow tired of BSM noise and ask us why we did not mention the 360c. I use the 360c connected to my wifi hot spots in two vehicles. Crowd source alerts. And use the app too for same thing. Plus WiFi updates are easier than dragging out a USB cable, connect the detector to the PC. I also like the magnetic mount on the 360c. I have had no issues with any of the 360 platforms. Others have experienced lock up or sleeping.

Again, the Pro M is almost as quiet relating BSM. But, no arrows, no app to use. It is tiny, easy to mount.

IF you want, buy more than one. Take advantage of the 30 day return of not satisfied. Test them for yourself. Pick which one fits you best.
