2 or 3 heads - TMG ?

I was curious what I might need for my front end. 2 or 3 heads? We don't have front license plates yet in my state, so I wasn't sure if a 3rd head was needed or not.

I'm guessing I would need to cut the grill, so that there is no plastic in front of the head, deflecting laser. That sounds like it would seriously reduce the coverage at that point.

I have some strobes in the front too, that might hurt me a bit since they might reflect back too.

It would be helpful to know in what states you drive. As far as I know PA contains no laser, but depending on what equipment the police are using in areas you frequent, it might or might not be necessary to use a third head.

My of my drive is PA/NJ but starting to work in Florida, so I have a lot of ground to cover between PA and FL. I only have so much real estate behind the grill and it's a pain in the ass to remove it. So far PA has no laser that I've seen, but thinking ahead too.

i'm also wondering if it's too low to put them in the lower grill area. OR maybe do 2 up top and 1 below.

In a state like NJ I'd think you'll get along fine with 2 heads. HOWEVER, on your trips to FL you will be passing through GA which is a hotbed of DET. To combat that you'll definitely want a 3rd head, and perhaps eventually you will want the VPR head - you could wait for the VPR head to come out or you could install 3 heads now and possibly swap from a regular to a VPR later on when it does.

Thanks for the quick response. I was just starting to read about the VPR heads, so they are not out yet. So what I would buy now would be compatible with the new head? I might run with the 2 heads to start then.

There are only so many countermeasures I can rely on with the car's appearance itself.... but in the dark, it's hard to tell what they are aiming at, so I'm a target just like any other car at night.

VPR heads will require a new CPU, but there will be a trade-in program for existing customers.

I might wait then. Heading south next week and I want to take the time to do the install right. The one piece bumper is a pain in the ass. Plus cutting the grill to mount heads is going to take some thought and some kind of bracket to hold it in place too. I'll have to do some more reading on the VPR head.

Buy a Dual and an extra single cable for the upcoming VPR head, then swap the cpu out.
You could wait, then buy the complete system.

I just did this last week. That way you're somewhat protected in the meantime

Nice Taurus Interceptor! I have definitely considered one of these when the old Crown Vic bites the dust (if that is possible).

I went with the duals on my Vic, with the option of adding the VPR head in the future. Waiting = zero protection.

I need to read some more about VPR, and see if it's just one head for the front then or not. I'm willing to wait till the new system comes out. Most of my driving is local right now but we're taking on some work down south, so I might be running back and forth through those states that really embrace Lidar.

The new system is only an upgraded cpu,and VPR head. The current heads will work with VPR.
