I’d much rather drive a 2000 Honda Prelude than a 2020 Chevy Spark. But, you know, as long as it looks like whatever the flavor of the week is. R7 looks awfully familiar. I wonder where they got their idea for the design before making it less user friendly?
The V1 is far from user friendly to setup. I know when I had it that programing it was a real task and then if I had to go and check a setting I had to bring out the manual again. If you don't have the manual then forget about changing the settings.

Uniden’s overall record is already worse, and their planned obsolescence means 15 years from now there probably won’t be many R7’s left in the world anyway. The last 15 years have been great for VR.

No, certainly not, if it means putting burn-in displays in place and getting sued by Escort. “Getting with everyone else” sometimes means getting dragged down to everyone else’s level. We would all need to know what the vague reference to “modernize” means before we can all agree.

I have a 15 year old V1 and I would throw it out the window if I were to use it today. The k band falsing would be unbelievable.

Heck I would have thrown my V1 out the window even back in 2008 with so much k band falsing from door openers. But thankfully. I live in a place where only ka band was used. Fast forward 10 years. K band and mrcd emerged. Even I were run every app available today on the V1. It would be junk to me. So no IMO the V1 has been terrible
Over the last 15 years

Was hoping for a New Year’s Day present. I guess not
Depends on which calendar you are using. :)

I don’t recall anything in the patents that make it seem like this’ll be able to compete with the new Radenso.

It should be a better traditional detector though. It may offer longer range, better BSM filtering, integrated BT, a new display, maybe RDD immunity, etc. and so it’d be interesting to see how a new V1 would stack up to the R7 and Max 360c.

I’d love to see it have R7 range and better than 360c filtering plus proper MRCD support. Pair that with the apps for lockouts and everything else and you’d have a pretty awesome package that I think a lot of people would be very happy with.

Given that it’ll be a V1, I’d also anticipate better reliability than what we’ve seen from Escort and Uniden too.

I doubt it or anything else will be able to compete with Theia though, but it will also cost less so it could be a good less expensive option. :)

If it comes back as the exact same V1, I think we’ll all be disappointed, so let’s hope for the best. :D
“AI”, or whatever term used to define, is prior art, so to speak. Possible applications for process patents within AI for specific use. Look for others (beside Rad) applications of pattern based learning over time. There also will be challenges to the upcoming First Order Rai. Which those who use other new adaptive tech will point out (Right or wrong). This time, unlike the late 70s, there will not be a monopoly on better tech adapted to LEO countermeasures IMHO. There may not be the worlds first galactic order of dominance for CM people are predicting. 2020-21 will be interesting for sure.

The difference is you can update the V1, and the V1 will still be around. I can’t imagine what Uniden detector from 15 years ago would be better. Can you even remember a particular Uniden detector from 15 years ago? How many are you still running today? I’m still running two V1’s and remain pleased with them.

Same here.

Except a V1 is not and has never been a Prelude, and the R7 is no Chevy Spark.

The V1 is a late 80's stick shift Beemer 524td (114hp) in bare bones French market execution (crank windowss, optional external passenger side mirror, optional cigarette lighter and a Beemer logo where the rev meter was supposed to be :D), with an AC thrown in the package. And the factory offers paid emissions system updates so you can stay up to date with new regulations.

JBV1 is an aftermarket package that adds a genius robotic shifter, power windows and top notch stereo, at the price of a mandatory dongle that has to stick on a mandatory air-vent attached cupholder.

The R7 is a fully loaded Genesis R-Spec sedan with a bug that triggers its BSM alert every time a sparrow farts within a one mile radius, which makes it difficult for the driver to use the option and forces them to still use the mirrors.

Is that the one that smells like old crayons? Seems like some German cars suffered from that for a good while. I’m guessing it’s something to do with the adhesives they used, or something along those lines.

Oh holy crap, I forgot all about that smell until you reminded me!

I never had an idea why that happened, but what you said seems spot on.

There is no doubt that a 15 year old V1 is better than a 15 year old uniden

Honestly, if my city didn’t change their speed enforcement tactics and was still using just Ka, laser and fixed intersection cameras. I would still be using my V1.

But I don’t know how anyone can handle having k band on with the V1 pre 3rd party app days

My V1 that I updated in the summer of 2015 went missing/stolen around February of 2016. I haven’t had a V1 since then. I used the V1 as my primary detector for around 23 years, and I never used a 3rd part app, and I know I missed out on a lot of information with some of the 3rd party apps when they came available.

Having said that, It never bothered me having K-band on in the city. Sometimes I would run it in advanced logic mode, logic, and in all bogeys mode in the city. Everyone’s tolerance for K-band “noise” is different. If I still had my V1, I would definitely try using an app because knowing the K-band frequency is important to me in 2019/2020 in determining if a K-band alert is a LEO, BSM, or a door opener.

I would have to say I am a V1 fan even though I currently don’t own a V1. My V1s served me very well for many years. After reading the recent posts in this thread, I can can see “both sides” to the “arguments”. People oftentimes have different wants, needs, and preferences in a radar detector. Oftentimes, it is good to just “agree to disagree”....lol.

Personally, I would like to see some updates to the V1 because that would probably trigger another V1 purchase for me. For many “V1 fans”, the “current” V1 is just fine. If the V1 comes back in stock as the same V1 being sold in March/early April of 2019, I personally will likely remain on the sidelines and wait for an updated V1.

Maybe MV needs to shake things up and have two models. An updated (internal) V1 Classic and a updated/refreshed V1 (external/internal). It likely will never happen, just throwing it out there. The V1 (externally) has changed just a few times over the years.

Well, cannabis doesn't seem to be hurt by illegality. Maybe that's the problem. Why can't fast drivers, aka "speeders" come out like other "oppressed minority groups"?

Maybe THIS:
"I speed. Therefore I am."
Except I don't speed EVER !!

I just talk about it for Illustrative purposes!

ALL my saves are theoretical as IF I ever speeded of which I never have. .... smile.

I'll paraphrase: I am a JBV1 fan even though I currently don't own a V1 and never have, in the sense that I consider the V1 to be a pale but needed accessory to JBV1, and would be a fan of whatever hardware ends up working with it if it ever ends up diversifying to other platforms.

In that sense, I'm "fan enough" of the V1, as I'd probably get one if it gets back on the market before and I get bored waiting for the other big thing.

Haven’t been paying attention to V1 news recently. Any updates from V1 now that we’re in 2020?

You know many years ago, I was a V1 guy but over the years I found other RD's that worked better for me. I just hope MV is trying to come up with a brand new RD. For me I am not going to use a iPhone to make the V1 modern. I want him change the guts in the V1, so all you have to do is plug it in just like the rest of the competion. So I am pulling for him, if he cannot do this. Then it looks like the next option for me is Radenso. P.S. One more thing I am not at all happy with the crap that he is pulling with this two weeks Sh-t! He has made a ton of money over the years that he could come out and publicly say i am working on something new or i have made a mistake in production. This kind of comment would not hurt him.
