Well ! Got my first LASER hit today. Conway, SC now confirmed using LIDAR. Cruising along at PSL +5 when I noticed 2 local City PD Cruisers parked on a cross street perpendicular to the roadway I was traveling. All of a sudden, BAM an alert sound for LASER. Really caught my attention because I've never heard it before. I was only about 250' from them and noticed him pulling it back into his side window and got a quick glance at the handheld LIDAR unit he was using. Had I been blasting along I would have been burnt toast.

Picture below resembles the unit he was using.

Iyou know that the only reason you’re safe is because you were only at +5.

other than that I’m assuming you weren’t 100% sure of the gun you saw being a DE. Other guns that look like that are the prolasers and Stalkers.

perpendicular is in classic LIDAR fashion.

Pretty sure the DFR9 doesnt alert to dragoneye. Probably an older gun.

I have no clue. Don't know the difference of any of the LASER/LIDAR or anything about them. I've only dealt with Ka, K & X band in my area until today. Trying to read about them and get a understanding on it.

I don't have a DragonEye on hand, but I do have the AL lidar gun simulator. Trying that, I find that the DFR9 does not alert to the Laser Ally pattern, but it does alert to the DragonEye pattern. There's lots and lots of different patterns of course and I can't speak for all of them, but there's two datapoints FWIW.

My R1 has alerted to DE during testing, i want to say my DFR 7 has as well. I'll be doing tests this weekend so I can hit the R1, DFR7 and DFR9 with a DETC and report back. bu yes a lot of the full size guns look like the DESL, PL4, stalker XLR ETC...

I look forward to seeing the testing results. Thank you @thebravo 👍

I've been living in my area now for a little over 2 years and this is the 1st encounter with Laser from Conway PD. Maybe they just got an early Christmas present and are out training with it  I named this new evil threat WALL-E because of the resemblance to what I seen peeking out the LEOs side window.

So at testing yesterday I took a second and shot the R1, the DFR7 and the DFR9 with a 2018 DETC with ECCM on and all three alerted just fine. so the unidens seems to at last for this version of DE have the ability to alert. that said during testing the R1 was not consistent in alerting to laser, it was either way late, or stopped alerting way before i got to the shooter and it may have missed a run or two... it's not the most sensitive to laser so it's not a great idea to expect it to alert consistently, but it does detect dragoneye.

This is awesome info. I was looking forward to seeing your testing. If you have any videos I would love to check them out also. Very surprising results for the R1 considering it's an R3 without GPS. Thank you very much @thebravo. Great post.

Made a map for my first laser encounter. 1,019' means nothing in this case. The LEO was perfectly positioned. When I had line of sight, so didn't he and BAM... I was PSL+5 thankfully. :)

TYPICALLY K & Ka on a daily bases but things changed.

Here is a video from the same location as my 1st Lidar encounter. 3 patrol cars parked and they were using Lidar. I had my dashcam on this day. Video isn't great but you can make out what went on.

For some reason the video plays faster than recorded. Not sure how that happened. WTFK. I must say they were perfectly positioned, hiding behind the tree line and soon as I seen the LEO he was on the trigger. I was 5+ PSL and it didn't get his attention thankfully. Anyway I'm not going to try and fix the video you get the point.
