People who follow news sites will know about this, other people who do not - here are some info news:

Good decision but bad model name, most people do not associate name Mustang with SUV or crossover.

Thought the Mustang naming was weird too. At first glance of the thumbnail in the above video, I couldn't help but think "that looks like a mazda 3 hatchback."

@erickonphoenix are you excited?!?

I'm kind of digging the GT myself. Not going to lie.

I think ford is following other manufacturers in the naming

I was shocked when I first saw the latest Mitsubishi Eclipse

Maybe name it "The Ford Mare" instead.

I watched a bit of the announcement video last night, which included Ken Block and Ben Collins getting a ride in it... they didn't seem too excited, but then again I'm sure they're both used to twice the power while drifting sideways.

I think Ford knows the American market well. Crossovers and SUV's are outselling cars, so if BEV's are going to be accepted here they had to go with that vehicle type. VW will be doing the same thing in the US next year with their "Crozz" crossover BEV while Europe gets the ID3 hatchback first instead.

It'll be interesting to see how the Mach-e sells and holds up in the US. BEV's only really make sense iin certain areas of the country, and it's a big country....

Calling it a Mustang is a mistake. They could’ve just called it a Mach-E, even, and it would’ve been just another dumb name. It’s just a very minorly lifted 5-door hatchback, and it’ll be interesting to see how it does (especially since it’s expensive), but throwing the Mustang nameplate on it is senseless and isn’t doing them any favors.

The wife wants a Model 3. We might get her a used Model X or something, even. It’ll have to wait for a bunch of other stuff financially to clear up, regardless, but I can’t imagine her going for something like this.

How hard is it to come up with a new name for the vehicle? I think it looks nice. But, it’s just idiotic to call it a Mustang. It’s about as absurd as calling it a F150.

The dealer allocations are expected to be high on these things based a meeting I had yesterday. Ford plans to roll out quite a bit of them.

Expect to see a lot of them on dealer lots, then wait for the incentives to purchase.

Boy they sure weren't shy of copying a lot of Tesla features. But the hardware looks respectable. And I think the Mustang name was a brilliant move marketing wise. Besides the lack of a high speed charging network. Another thing Ford can't copy from Tesla is the elimination of dealers (which has been a huge hurdle for Tesla).

This is a copy of a post on the Tesla Forum.

Under Item #1 in Fords online reservation for the Mach-E. So business as usual, the dealer will set price and markup for "stuff".
Here is the entirety of item 1 of 15 of the reservation details:

1. Reservation.
You may be able to configure a Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicle (the “Vehicle”) through the Reservation Process (“Reservation”). By completing the Reservation Process, you are not ordering or purchasing a vehicle. The Reservation Process allows you to configure a Vehicle and pay the Reservation Deposit (“Reservation Deposit”) to Ford. Participation in the Program does not guarantee you vehicle delivery. You must contact a Dealer to discuss final transaction pricing, arrange any necessary financing, and complete your purchase of the Vehicle. Your Reservation does not guarantee a set price for the Vehicle. The Dealer sets the Vehicle price, which may differ from the MSRP. Unless otherwise indicated, MSRP is the manufacturer suggested retail price and does not include destination/delivery fee plus government fees and taxes, any finance charges, any dealer processing charge, any electronic filing charge, and any emission testing charge. Optional equipment not included.

The bold emphasis is mine. I probably could have bolded the whole thing.

Well, it's nowhere near as ugly as the Model X is.

Besides the lack of a high speed charging network.
“Ford claims that its FordPass Charging Network is the largest public network in the country, featuring 35,000 plugs at 12,500 charging stations in the U.S. and parts of Canada, some of which are DC fast chargers that can charge the Mustang Mach-E to 80 percent in about 38 minutes. The Mach-E will be the first Ford to utilize the network.... Drivers can locate the nearest charging station using the car's navigation system, Ford says.”

Besides, are all the other charging stations out there proprietary and incompatible?

And if you're in the Mustang it will be so far ahead of you, you will not need to look at it.

There are zillions of level 2 chargers around. But you need fast DC charging for any kind of serious distance traveling. Electrify America (which I believe is what Ford is talking about) is ramping up a little around me in MA, but the locations are limited 3-4 bays, not all DC (I just checked their map). Tesla is a pretty massive presence. There is nothing live in VT, NH, ME for Electrify America. But there are a few planned. It's moving in the right direction but has long ways to go. Competition is good. I would think it would take at least 3 years to catch up to what Tesla has today. And that assumes Electrify America is full steam ahead (just planning and execution of these installations take time even if you have the money). Tesla has been doing it for a decade.

Performance Model S/X would leave any Model 3 in the dust (on a drag strip 0-60, 1/8 or 1/4), as well as the Mustang line up. Model 3 does have a leg up on the track though with Track Mode aggressive battery cooling. But the Model S Plaid will put that all to rest which will probably be out before the Mustang even hits production.

Aren't we talking EV here, Isn't the GT500 an ICE? Maybe you meant GT?

0-60 on Model X Performance is around ~2.7s, Performance Model S ~2.4s, Performance Model 3 ~3.2s, Even a Non Performance Model S ~3.7 and Mustang GT is supposed to be ~3.5s. All Tesla numbers are before the recent performance boost across the line.

And if you want to talk about cars not in production yet there is the 2020 Roadster at 1.9s. And I don't know what Model S Plaid Target will be, surely low 2's. Both probably out in the Mustang time frame give or take.

Ford has a long ways to go to prove their charging network shows up, they are reliable long term on batteries, can withstand being on a drag strip or a track before they can touch Tesla. Not mention safety testing. Ford could beat them in the long run, but this all new, nothing proven. Let's revisit this in 5 years and see where we are.
