Calling all Florida folks (and anyone else in the area that wants to join us)! It’s that time again, it’s the 3rd annual winter laser countermeasure testing meetup!

Last year was our second meet and was a lot of fun, we got to spend the day testing various laser countermeasure systems on multiple vehicles to optimize our setups and generate data for the community. It appears we have grown in number significantly, throughout 2019 I have had plenty of folks reach out for testing of their new “laser protection systems”. I did a bunch of one off tests as did a few others in south Florida, we did a super rushed mini test just before hurricane Dorian was set to make landfall, but it was rushed and we had limited course options as the weather had closed down many of the usual options. For the winter meet we should be hurricane free and should have a better chance of good weather for a full day of laser countermeasure testing.

I’m targeting the 29th of December in either St Lucie or Martin County starting around 9 (meet 8:30) and going until we are done (I expect this will take most of the day if the turnout is as large as it could be). Of course there is no requirement to stay for the entire day, but it is a lot of fun so many folks hang out after their vehicle is tested and help with further testing and tweaking of other setups. I try to make sure everyone gets some time behind the lidar guns for experience and we try to make sure each vehicle gets hit with a good barrage of guns to make sure the testing is thorough.

This year we have potentially a larger number of folks that are in the area and interested in participating in the testing (which is wonderful!). It’s always a really fun time coming together with other CM users and testing things out, we will have to organize things a little more carefully to make sure we can get through all the testing but I think we can swing it. To start this process I have setup a preliminary online interest form here: https://forms.gle/vmv6QqJ2WoYZRGnQ6 (if you have multiple vehicles please fill it out once per vehicle)

Please fill out the above form by December 15th if you are interested in attending the winter event. I will be taking that info to help plan the event, generate testing sheets, etc. With a larger group it takes more order and logistical planning to get things to work well. In mid December I will send a Private Group Conversation on the forum to those that complete the form and will provide additional info and a second form to fill out with your basic contact info so I can text/call you the day of the event to coordinate things if needed. If you have any time constraints on the 29th please message me so we can work around that.

I’m expect to have a collection of lidar guns available including: DETC (multiple versions), DESL, Stalker XLR, Stalker RLR, Truspeed S, Truspeed LR, Stalker LR, Prolite, Prolaser 3, Ultralyte and possibly a few others, if you have guns you would be willing to contribute please shoot me a message on the forum and let me know.

Based on the amount of time anticipated to complete the testing I will likely arrange to have sandwiches provided for lunch and some basic snacks as well.

I will be sending a PM to everyone that has indicated interest, has been recently tested this year or is local to the area with a laser setup to make sure everyone see’s this post but in addition you are also going to be tagged here too. If you see anyone I missed please feel free to tag them.

If you are unable to attend the 29th but would still like to do testing please shoot me a message. I will likely have access to a decent arsenal of guns for a little bit before and after the event, we can potentially do a mini meetup another day or even a couple one off’s to make sure everyone gets tested.

I will throw it out there as well, there is an area not too far from each of our test courses that is super long straight and flat, that would be a good spot to test RD’s, if there is time after the laser testing has wrapped up we could setup a fixed radar source and have folks drive their car with their RD and do a few passes and record the distances they get for a little quick RD max range test. While the exact setup of each RD would vary the overall results should be pretty reliable. I don’t think there will be time for it, but if there is it’s an option.

and now for the tag cloud (people that have indicated interest in the past or are known to be from FL with a laser setup) Please feel free to tag others!

Yeah! Count me in, but I don’t need testing. I’ll be there for moral support!

Very generous of you @thebravo, but I hope anyone who takes part makes some sort of donation back to you to offset any costs.

:) Lets see how many folks are coming, If the sandwich costs get out of hand I will consider taking some donations. Just recalling last year we kinda worked through lunch and since we are not super near anyplace with food thought maybe doing a little tailgate lunch might be a good idea so we don't get sloppy with out testing in the afternoon :)

Yeah food would be nice based on last year’s testing location.

Thanks for putting this together!

I don't think I will be able to make this, although it's only an hour from me. Just really constrained for time and have visitors. I have a DragonEye, PL3 and Truspeed S and in the Orlando area. If any of you are around there and can't make it to this event, we can always do another event in early 2020.
