Whatever you come up with, the ease of adding an additional remote mute/function button is key. With the V1, even with the Remote display (in instrument cluster) and Remote Audio (under steering column), for non app muting, I rely on the remote v1 button (http://www.safe-n-sound1.com/Valentine Flat Mute Plug.html) or flic for the ALPConnect integration.

Open API would open up your options for many DIYers as well as those who love the added functionalities of 3rd party RD/LJ Apps.

Small display and separate small controller with tactile buttons, no capacitive stuff, I want to do it by feel. Bonus if the buttons feel different enough to readily discern them.

A separate display and controller give more mounting options. For those that don't like it separate, you could always make a separate plastic piece that you could snap the controller and display into.

Make a quality app and those who want a bigger display or no display at all can use it

my V1 is now a desktop ornament
I enjoy the Audio of the HiFi voice alerts. Its the only one (imo) that is not robotic. I feel like that is AL's property but it would be nice. And a small control pad with remote OLED display would be cool.

I have been thinking about this... it is actually easier to tweak or critique an existing product than to create one! We might need to see a prototype option once you get an idea of what the basic plan will be for us to then help perfect it.

Keep it simple but informative. It needs frequency, signal strength, and radar direction on display...no speed, compass, time, etc.

Buttons visible on front. It might be cool if the display was actually a movable entity where it had 4 options for movement, up, down, right, left or maybe just in...it would save space. Or have button controls on each side of the rectangular display.

On/Off, Volume, Mute/Lockout, Options (highway, city, advanced) are the quick button controls I can think of.

I think it still needs to have options to integrate with a Lidar system even if it is only for something like a single head ALP for detection. We know how Lidar detection is not reliable protection but if you do not offer it as an option I think it will not be acceptable for the average user.

I like the style of the Max Ci 360 display and controller. It makes them smaller and you can integrate them in your vehicle quite nicely. I find the Stinger kinda big and bulky. If people want a minimal K40-like setup, it’d be cool to have a controller and LED only (similar to now), but with more capabilities and buttons on the remote.

Speaking of the display, IIRC one if the ideas was to be able to do lockouts without relying on the phone, correct? If this is the case, please give us the ability to mute and lockout radar signals from the remote. I hate having to rely on the phone for lockouts, whether it’s to create them or to have them in the first place.

I’m also hoping that a dedicated remote control pad and display means that we’ll be able to use HiFi for audio to finally get dedicated and reliable audio alerts while also getting complete radar functionality simultaneously. This is my biggest request.

If we’ll still be forced to use the car stereo for audio while using this new display/controller, I won’t really care what the display looks like to be perfectly honest. If we can use HiFi, that’ll make this a significantly more appealing package.

I can see that this display is on the BIG side of things as you mentioned, as well as unused real estate on the right and left. Since it is the control Pad as well, chopping off half the display and trim the sides, move the control independent of the display, a proper displaying of info I think. Too bad two display options were not available due to cost reasons and limited market.

If new cpu just for NET Radar
- Would be nice to have BT integral
- GPS
- Display similar to R7 - no additional buttons on it, so it gets smallest as possible for better placement
- Display magnetic mount for easier removal
- Control pad with buttons similar as R7 (that should be enough to cover everything)
- Option to add extra LED
- Option to add Flic BT instead control pad

And most important part antenna that can scan under 24.050 to be able to get those low MRCD signals.

I'd suggest that the screen and the buttons should be separate. Ideal placement for view and for reach are different. Also, this split arrangement would allow installers to integrate buttons from a vehicle's existing switchgear onto the "control pad" cable going to the CPU, without touching the cable for the separate display. Many people seem to like the combo of phone for display + buttons for simple control on the ALP, and physically separating the two would allow one to easily retain that setup.

Making the buttons simple momentary switches would also be nice. My bluetooth audio adaptor had a single button, but it seems to work on current rather than potential - turned out it had a 1k resistor in it. Took me a while to figure out why my custom control pad switch wouldn't do anything with it. I'm just glad I didn't fry the adaptor!
