Welcome to the RDF! Using any other CM like VVaze or Parking Sensors. TMG can really help in Texas if Lidar is an issue in your area.

Enjoy the Forum and one can't go wrong with the R7. Have a look at www.vortexradar.com site and in the Uniden section for some tips and tricks to get more performance and less false alerts out of your R7.

Welcome from south/central/ and east Texas.

How do you drive between the states? The R7 is probably a solid choice for doing so as my R3 crushed it on I-40 and I’d imagine I-10 as well by the looks of it.

If we’re talking about the drive: if you don’t already know it’ll be many flavors of Ka and K in a few spots. I can’t speak precisely for laser but I know you’re going to want to look at protection. I will say I know they shoot it at both of your destinations and inbetween (it’s been confirmed all up and down I-10 and I’m pretty sure I got some on I -40).

if we’re just talking about the state of Texas, K is rather uncommon but present. You will see overwhelmingly 34.7 compared to anything.

I have tasker set up on my phone to launch VVaze when my phone is connected to both my car's bluetooth and power. Sorry, what is TMG?

I have definitely looked at vortex's guide and I have been playing around with settings for the best result.

I am liking it a lot, I am starting to get the hang of identifying what is real and what is not. The arrows are great if a little finnicky.

Awesome, I am in San Antonio occasionally for work! Also, TXCTG's testing is a major reason I went for the R7 over an Escort.

Since purchasing the detector I have only made the trip once and actually ended up on both I-40 and I-10 by cutting down from Flagstaff to Pheonix. The R7 is truly in its element on the open road as I was able to crank the sensitivity and was getting detections out to nearly 6 miles. I also got my first legit k-band alert while in Arizona as well.

So you’ve put some milage on it so far. That’s good you’re giving it a workout. I went through Lubbock towards I-40 and I got K band from some deputies near Albuquerque. But all that does is make me suspect there’s more hidden around there somewhere. I actually wasn’t running the uniden on the drive back taking I-10 but it looked about the same.

TMG is a laser defense system that’s still relatively new around here. They’re what I run and it is bulletproof defense for your driving locations. Laser is a whole new animal though so there’s going to be a good learning curve there.

I definitely don't doubt that there is K band out there which is why I don't disable it, but I have hardly seen it.

Gotcha, I was looking at stinger due to the fiber system as jamming is illegal in both TX and CA, but price and installation are definitely limiting factors for me.

Plenty of Texans run ALP and TMG. Trust me, you won’t have any problems if you JTK which is what you should do regardless.

stinger fiber is awesome but insanely expensive.

Yeah, but having easily visible emitters would still worry me if I did end up getting pulled over for whatever reason.

That sounds like a great time.

Will do!

Having laser receiver emmiters is totally legal. Its the jamming function that is illegal.

I've been pulled over with jammers (unrelated) and have had cops look at my car a few times. No one has mentioned a thing or even asked about the ALP heads.

If you JTK, you'll have no issues.

Welcome to the board. My condolences about having to visit Southern California fairly often.
