That's helpful info, and kind of what I was thinking, which is why I was wondering about the "cheapest" VPR gun out there. Figured at least from a testing standpoint, that dealing with VPR means I'll at least be able to test my system under the real world dragoneye circumstances of specific heads firing and others receiving. On the other hand, getting the most up-to-date gun possible might help resale value?

"Right connections" meaning RadarSports is almost certain to not send an ECCM gun?

Yea, I'm starting to get the impression that when it comes to laser guns maybe I'm getting censored responses from the folks "in the know" because of the public nature of the forum.
I don't believe radar sports will still ship eccm enabled guns. There is more on this in intermediate and advanced for sure , once you get a little higher you will seea lot more. But most good VPR guns are going to be pretty expensive $1500+ at least on the used market. Your best bet is to put a wanted ad up with what you are looking for, as folks here may have stuff or may be upgrading so they may be selling off stuff. Plus then you know what you are getting.

Best option borrow a lidar gun. Ask around or if someone in your state can test you out.

I have 2 LADIR Guns here in NW Ohio. A ProLogic 3 and UlraLite 2020 LR. Have never encountered a PL3 in the wild, but Ultra Lite 20-20 almost on a monthly bases as OSP still has a lot of them in use. And X band radar on there latest cars. Another Forum I know. Getting a little cold for testing, but open to opportunities. Tnx :giggity:

For kicks, I just emailed Radarsports and they said that they will only enable ECCM if selling to a law enforcement agency.

Does anybody know if these manufacturers will sell to any law enforcement officer for personal use or would the check have to be cut directly from a police department? Suppose you had a close friend/family member in law enforcement who didn't mind doing you a favor. Would that work?

I know a police department in Georgia They purchased one for their department and then he sold it to somebody else out of the agency and the officer got terminated. I suggest not trying that

If you do contact the manufacturer be prepared to be ask a lot of questions.

This is in a public section so i am not going to go into any detail. But there is a LOT of misinformation in this thread.

OP is advised to contact a tester in his/her local area.
I will 2nd this sentiment as I have done some testing in my own area and own several guns myself. Even amongst testers information is only shared on a nominal basis.

This strikes me as quite a bit different than what @Wareagle1520 was suggesting. Selling government property outside of proper channels definitely would be a big deal, particularly if the money went to the individual and not to the department. An officer personally purchasing one from a manufacturer/reseller wouldn't cross those specific lines.

I wonder if the mfgs would sell to something like a neighborhood association? The requirement for ECCM for a private org is obviously a lot lower, but I could see an argument for wanting it still.

Btw if anything I'm mentioning in this thread crosses lines around what is supposed to be talked about in public on this forum, plz let me know and I can edit.

I'm not suggestiing that he would purchase it under the false pretense that it would be used for the department, and I'm definitely not suggesting that he use public money to purchase it and then give it away. I'm simply saying if he inquired to purchase one for his personal use and identified himself as law enforcement. I don't see how that would be illegal or cause any kind of conflict with the department. I doubt it would even work, but it was just a thought.
