1. What kind of vehicle you have and do you want a remote or a windshield mount? 2012 Mustang GT500
2. What's your budget? Possible to stay around $400?
3. Where you live ( address not needed of course) and what states , country or areas you primarily drive? Hometown Richmond,Va.Travel around this area extensively. Occasional trips to NOVA DC Maryland and North Carolina Charlotte area.
4. How you drive? 85% of the time cruise set at 10 over PSL running Waze. If I know the road I will open the car up i.e. I know there isn't a place for LE to sit and run radar.
5. What your daily drive is like (short trips? long trips? city? highway?) Daily drive is 10 miles each way on interstates.
6. How long you have been using countermeasures, if at all? Been using Waze for
5 or 6 years. This will be my first RD plan to add active CMs in the future.
7. Are there curves, hills, obstructions or is the area flat as a pancake. Mixture of all of the above.
8. Are there Redlight cams/speed cams in your area and do you need / prefer a GPS enabled unit? None in my daily driving area. GPS isn't a neccessity.
9. Thanks to ahl: "Are you willing/do you want to use your phone to pair with the RD?" and "What kind of device do you own (iOS/Android)". There is Escort LIVE and droid only YaV1 for the V1 apps one can use to adjust their RD. There is also V1 Driver in the ios APP Store for V1 users who wish to use an Apple device. ** Note that many of these apps allow you to use the APP (either droid or Apple) to readjust your settings for the V1. Escort Live allows you to do this as well on Escort products that are LIVE necessity. I already use phone for WAZE and streaming audio. No issue connecting to RD. I use an android device.
10. Do you face MRCD and/or MRCT in your area? I don't know what specific threats I'll be facing locally.

Thanks in advance. Currently looking at an R3 or R7 then adding TMG later. If more experienced members have better ideas or additional thought lay them on me.

You certainly can't go wrong with those choices. I would suggest the R3 and save the balance for laser protection or maybe the new Radenso unit (?) The announcement at SEMA may change the entire industry....

Buy buy buy devices that your gut and feature likes warrant. Then test, test, test (on the street), return the rest (not suitable).

@Heywood makes good point. Better to have some that suits your needs now, than wait for something yet to come. You can upgrade at that point. R7 would be a great device as part of your test fleet (to validate your original thought with first post). You might try others to test if you so desire. Most have 30 day full return policy.

Because its VA, I'd lean more towards the R3 or ProM since they've been found to be generally stealth to RDDs.
Duh, good point. Thanks

Well I pulled the trigger on an R3 and mirror tap. Sure wish I had them today. Passed 2 running radar today and one trooper drivin opposite direction again. Waze covered me on the 2 stationary ones.

Great choice! You will do well with it. Check out the setup videos by vortex. It’s a great way to quickly get up to speed on the unit. Let us know how you make out.

Congrats. Good choice. You will like how the dark mode works (DC and VA as RD banned locations). U need it around there. :)

You see...There I would have suggested the Pro M. The MRCD in MD would have done better on the Pro M, since the R3 doesn't have the lower end of K band that the Pro M does. Stealth and proven MRCD range, the Pro M fits the bill there.

Too late now. The deal is done. Enjoy the new RD! :)

Pro M is my general go to when traveling over to DC, MD and VA. But, I have the luxury of making a choice between the two (or more). He picked the R3 overall for his reasons. For me, I wanted to support his decision.

If his individual R3 flubs big in his first days, return and pick up a Pro M to try.

I've tried to secure a tint waiver last year. I'm going to try again this year see if that dims the display also.

Phil, I actually looked at the Pro M too. Not going to lie the price through me off a bit, I know you get what you pay for. After ordering the R3 and watching Vortex's SEMA videos about Radenso AI,maybe in the future.

The R3 is priced quite a bit lower for sure. I think you made a sound choice!

And don't worry, you'll almost certainly have more RD's in the future!;)
