So I knew going in that the Uniden series did not have a strong output on the audio out jack. I plan to use it on the bike with phone ( for audio only) and the detector. I bought a Amplirider. If I plug in earbuds directly to the detector I can get no sound. If I run it through the Amplirider I can. Problem is I dont think there is enough volume to hear it with music on while riding.

Is it worth returning it for a different unit? ( still under warranty) or all they all pretty much this bad?

I may be wrong, but isn't it a mono out jack? You're probably messing the signal and contacts up when you use a stereo cable and it's not getting the sound it should be.

I think it is stereo from what I have read. It wont hurt to try a mono plug if I have one around.

If no one else corrects me, try it. I'm 70% sure it's mono out but I may be wrong.

I believe it’s a mono signal but output through a stereo jack (L & R signals are the same).

I tried the escort amplified speaker on my r3 a while back with no success. Not sure why it wouldn't work, but I gave up on it. All my other detectors worked just fine, though
