Nothing new ... Where is the Whistler CR 97 Support.. No activity.. Not one message or post since September.. I almost forgot I pre ordered this BS.. lol
Definitely not much going on in the Whistler section of the RDF lately or with Whistler supporting the CR97. I think Whistler has moved on to the the CR95/CR97 successor models. I wonder if they plan on introducing or talking about any future new models at SEMA. Anyway, I doubt I would consider buying another Whistler unless they just really put out a high performance, precise (no K-Ka mixups), and a detector with a specific (and accurate) frequency display on all radar frequencies with solid BSM filtering.

Hi guys....I have been using my Redline Ex or my R3. I just slap one up on the windshield and I pretty much leave it alone. They do protect me without all the button pushing to experiment with settings. It was the k/ka mix up that did me in on the CR97. I was thinking of looking around for a non FDSR cheap Whistler to play with as it seems like the FDSR units are the ones that mix up the bands. I was thinking of a CR85 which may have less range but no mis-ids from what I read here. I really liked the UI and the display, but I may be done with Whistler also unless they clean up the issues we encountered.

I have a CR85, and you're right, it has no mixups, guess what else it ain't got? NO RANGE! The CR85 is not in the same world as the CR95 and 97! When @VariableWave and I tested the CR85 it had around half the range against 35.5 as my 95/97.

CR85 had about 2.0miles straight road to call out 35.5. while the CR95/97 had just under 4 miles. Looking forward to next round of LIDAR/Radar testing.

I wish I would have been closer, so I can join your testing group, guys. I've had @Bossdad71's PL3 for 10 days now, but I have not found a single person who would test with me... My wife and I are both off today, so I guess we'll try to test today, so I can return the lidar gun...

Ok on the less range of the 85 vs the 97 @Kennyc56. Range is key! I do like the range I have seen keeping the 97 at TFSR off/FDSr on/ filters at 0 or 1. Its really reactive but noisy so I keep it in City mode and its ok when I use it. I keep the GPS off. Range in my locale (straights/mild curves/foilage) is ok, not stellar at +10 PSL (don't laugh). And as far as testing....I'd like to buy a Ka gun and do some testing out here also. (Hey Whistler....is there something you can do to fix the k/Ka mixups???)

That has been my issue with my corner of the area. There are two RDF guy I have talked with, but really are ghost. Then @Kennyc56 popped into my life, man... I guy could cry. Not sure if tears of joy or smh... lol. Times it would be nice if he was closer, but the main issues we find are the nice roads with no traffic. We have our go to spots, but not like recent ones that are nicer, just a hike. We got a lot done with the group we have @LinuxD , @The Pope, for adding to assisting.

On the CR95/97 series, no. Perfect world, a nice detector... the bad, never should have been released. We have questioned if a firmware fix would ever be in the future to correct it, but concur a unit that never should of be sold.

In regards to the cr 85, it is a beast on laser. Alerts to every vpr gun and never misses a shot. It is sensitive enough for scatter. I have both the cr97 and cr85 and I end up running the cr85 more because with TFSR on it has excellent bsm filtering and false filtering and in the real world has acceptable range for + 10 psl. It does not have any Ka/K band mix up and has great reactivity to IO shots. I wouldn't go faster than +10 psl in the CR 85. I agree for pure range in a straight line the cr97 will crush it but with tons of curves and trees, both will give shorter range.

I would love no mixups and more BSM silence. But I can get that with no range reduction in other units. That psl+10 is my normal limit. Many times I have passed someone and see I'm going 75 in a 55 thinking...bam here is my ticket. That is when I don't want to worry about bad range. Like @VariableWave said...nice detector but it was rushed to market with some flaws. The 85 doesn't have the flaws but it may be a bit lacking in range. At psl+10 I think it would be ok. Laser is also a bit of a benefit with the Whistlers.

Whistler has been closed a hell of a lot longer than 2 weeks sadly! What pisses me off is the CR95 and 97 could be killers with just a little effort! My 95 and 97 blow my 85 out of the water, there's no comparison! In my area I need every inch of range and off axis that I can get. This is where ALL Whistlers suck! @VariableWave and I easily can get 4 miles with both the 95 and 97 and 2 miles with the 85 against 35.5, but throw in a corner or some off axis and they fall off a cliff! Then throw in the Ka/K band confusion, and you can't really take them seriously. Since I have always had a soft spot for Whistler, I still run my 97 from time to time and have gotten some killer saves both from point blank I/O shots and long range 34.7 and 35.5. Just don't expect good off axis coverage! The crazy thing is they are out of their minds against any damn laser gun you throw at them never missing a shot and id'ing their pulse rates! Go figure! Against laser they spank every other detector I have including my V1! When was the last time you saw a V1 id a pulse rate?

I too love the Whistlers for their laser sensitivity. Even my CR 85 is a beast on laser. Have you ever compared the laser sensitivity on your CR 97 vs your CR 85? If so, did you see any differences? Whistlers are the only detectors that I have owned that have saved me via scatter shots. I would honestly even be ok with their weak off axis, but their darn K/Ka band mix up has to be fixed, it makes it so annoying to use. I want to blow up every honda crv on the road when I run my CR 97.

I haven't really tested my 85 against laser that much because I don't ever see any unless we are testing, and my 85 is so far behind my 97 against radar that I really don't play with it that much anymore. I discovered how good the 97 is against laser at one of out tests. I left it on by mistake during a test of my R1 against laser, I don't remember the gun, anyway my R1 was as blind as a bat over and over, while my 97 ate it alive everytime not missing even one shot! Only my V1 can match it, and like I said, I doesn't do pulse rates!

I gave my CR97 to my brother. He lives in NYC and has red light cameras that are in the GPS function. I see the last update for the redlights was in Sept so it isn't bad for him. If I can find another cheap Whistler to play with I will go for it. It had acceptable range but I couldn't live with the k/ka mix up as we have discussed endlessly. So now that I passed it on to him, I bet the firmware fix will be released!
