My experience so far. I shipped my R7 in for the dead rear antenna 7 days ago. I started asking for status on the 5th day and their rep sent me in email stating it takes 5-7 days to process. So I wait until the 7th day and now I'm told it takes up to 20 days to turn around. So as of now I paid $500 for an RD that has spent more time at Uniden then in my possession and I may not see it for a month? It's a brand new out of the box unit, just send me a functional replacement and you can dissect that unit all you want on your time.

Is this normal for Uniden to take so long?

My experiance was that those are the quoted times, they gave me the same quoted times but I got my replacement unit back in about a week, but that was an R1, so they may have had more of those one hand as it's a more popular model.

I feel your pain. It seems they should do better, regardless of 'The Policy'.

@UnidenSupport ? Sounds like another company who says “two weeks” for movement. :)

If it was brand new out of the box why did you not just return it to the reseller for a replacement?

Finger wagging does not help...

maybe there was going to be a restocking fee? :) Serious, cut him a bit of slack. He is not the problem.

Not finger wagging but if he purchased a new detector he should have received a working device and replaced it through the vendor during the first 30 days which is part of the requirement of an authorized dealer to cover the first 30 days after the purchase.

Yea, get that. While it was not specific, I got the impression he had it over 30 days before realizing it had to go back.

Because the problem with the RD was the RD itself and I wanted Uniden to be aware and be the source of the resolution. Had it been purchased from BRD I would have sent it to them/you because I know you're knowledged on the product and have contact with Uniden. I originally wanted to purchase from BRD however I emailed them/you for some pre-purchase information and after a week never got a reply. Someone else had a good deal so that's where I went. They deal in electronics and I didn't want to get into a cycle of getting another one that doesn't work or has other issues. If that's what happens I would rather just deal with the manufacturer.

His post stated "So I wait until the 7th day and now I'm told it takes up to 20 days to turn around. So as of now I paid $500 for an RD that has spent more time at Uniden then in my possession ." If total turn around of 20 days is more than it was in his position I took it that he had it less than 30 days. In any case since he already mailed it in not much you can do now but wait for the process to complete.

If it is within the 1st 30 days just return it to the original place of purchase - you will get a brand new unit - typically much faster than any vendor can repair yours. Uniden is a very large company, defects happen, you returning your unit directly to them will not result in them haulting production to figure out why one unit suddenly had a faulty rear horn.

That said I had 2 returns with Uniden and they were VERY fast with their repair process. What they quoted for time vs what it actually took was very different.

In the future, unless it is something very customer, I would always recommend just swapping units within the 30 day window as if one thing is wrong there might be others you encounter later (hopefully not though).

My post was more about whether this amount of time was normal for Uniden. In my mind, considering its a brand new unit and they have the receipt, it should be a quick replacement. If it was almost a year old I could see them wanting to check it out first and see if they can repair.

yea, his reference to “7 days” I think.... was referred to when he decided to wait until then to check on the device. Not he had it only for 7 days. he can speak for himself. In any case you make good points.

How did you determine the rear antenna was "dead"?

Uniden is unlikely to repair it first and send the same one back to you. They will however always inspect the unit first to be sure it’s actually defective and not been tampered with. Then they will most likely send you back a ‘like new’ previously refurbished unit. I don’t believe they have the the same service structure and set up that say escort does for RDs.

I did multiple test when I suspected the problem but the final straw was when I found an LEO running KA parked on the side of the road. I approached him from one direction and slowly passed and the front arrow only showed the signal the whole time until I was over half a mile away from him and then the signal just faded away. Then I turned around and approached from the other angle and had the same result. I understand how reflections can cause in inaccuracies in the arrows however approaching the same constant KA radar from 2 different directions should have shown some type of reaction to the arrows even if they weren't accurate. Mine was completely dead, it was basically acting like my R3 I moved to my wife's car

Thanks for the information. I can't help thinking it would have been interesting to do your test with the R7 mounted backward.

To clear things up, I had the unit about three weeks before I sent it back. Once the unit was delivered to uniden I was given the 5-7 day processing and 20 day turn around response.

Again, like I stated, I sent it back to Uniden because I didn't want to run the risk of that vendor having a bad batch or getting another one with an issue. Even if it took a little longer I would rather let Uniden warranty their product. I feel I have a better chance of getting a good unit back, at least that's how it should work.

Sounds like the normal at Uniden. I requested that they go ahead and send me a replacement while they figure everything out, but instead they waited on my return, processed it, then sent out the new unit. It left me without a detector for longer than I like.

My detector was purchased directly from Uniden and this was the first month of ownership.
