Can anyone assist me with some good general settings for using in offline mode? I tried it for a little bit and the main thing I would like is To get the small 3-D map screen to show full screen if possible. Also the only real alert I want to get is for police out to 2 miles. I currently have the minimum mileage setting to show my traveling on the map out to one mile unless there's an alert.
I primarily use waze in the foreground and would like this to run in the background so I can get earlier alerts on things like police, traffic accidents, and maybe a few others.

This is my 1st time using the app so I'm completely green.

My primary radar detector is an R7

Have a look in:

Settings > Display > Alert Map

Settings > Crowd-Sourced Alerts

Can you mark locations for visible police on JBV1 or do you go back to Waze for that?
What are the proper settings if I want it to only let me know about police while operating in the background?

Reporting and confirming can only be done from VVaze.

If you want only police alerts, disable all the other alert types. CSA > Advanced > Other Alert Types

Thank you so much, its a fantastic app. Will the CSA's pop up as an overlay on Waze while I have that in the foreground?

Yes.
Please continue reporting on vvase to help the community.
You will have to go through ALL the settings multiple times and experiment to get it dialed in the way that works best for you.

Great app and ferius is a great guy too. With his help i manage to use HR on rooted devices, with tts.
Now google maps will not work on such a device, but hey, I am happy to not use waze battery killer anymore...

I have to say, this is probably one of the most well developed apps I've seen in a long time period I don't have a V-1 however in offline mode this app provides so much useful information and such an increased range over just running waze I'm surprised how I didn't know about it sooner. I guess sometimes you get so locked into the way you've been doing things that you don't even pay attention to what's available.

The app is fantastic. But because there are so many advanced features (buried under layers and layers of sub-menus), it's intimidating for first-time users and the learning curve is steep. The default settings out of the box are sufficient, but for the n00bs that also like to tinker and fine-tune their experience, it would be great if the JBV1 Settings page had a keyword search field at the top (like Android OS has under Settings), so that one can directly access (or even toggle?) a particular setting screen/page without having to remember how to navigate all the way through Settings > Display > Alert Overlay > etc. etc. Even I can't remember where stuff is located between different versions/updates (and sometimes things get moved around or renamed).

It does make a lot of apps developed by smart young things seem amateurish, doesn't it?

So have been playing with the offline features. It is a bit daunting with so many menu and layers. I am thinking a good portion of the menu are Valentine specific, and will take time to tweak the menu to be offline specific. Wonder if there is a quick and dirty how to for offline mode.

Question - are there supposed to be audio alerts offline? I assume yes. Seems as if I was getting them initially, but do not seem to be getting them anymore. I know I am getting sound because when I turn on JBV1 it tells me what county I am in. I see visible alerts, but no audio. Happens both in the foreground and background. Maybe when tweaking the menu, I turned something off by mistake.

Great prog, btw. Will be sending a contribution.

One thing I will suggest is to save your settings prior to making changes each time so you have a all back.

Open up settings and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click on "Crowd Sourced Alerts". Go in there to set up the alerts that pop up over waze.

To turn on the alerts that pop up over waze got to settings, display settings, alert overlay. Check on the alert overlay enabled feature. Everything below that first check are options you can play with.

Next go into settings, audio settings, audio handling, select Force Speaker so the alerts only come out on your phone speaker. This eliminates confusion or delays with it trying to play alerts through your cars audio. If you want to do that you can play with it over time to see what works.

Finally go into settings, audio settings, volumes, and scroll down to the CSA notification Volume. Adjust how loud you want the alerts. I set it at 100%
