Last night I was following a rabbit on the local highway which has a 55 speed limit. He was flew by me then I followed him from afar but did not notice if he took an exit. I was pretty sure he was still on the highway and doing 80+. There was a construction zone coming up and the highway changed from a 3 lane highway to one just one lane. Speed limit went from 55 to 45mph since it’s a construction zone. But usually there is nobody actually working at night so I eased off a bit but not too much. There was also an Suv going below the limit (maybe the rabbit had passed him) so I had to slow down either way. I had my r1 it was in city mode and in the past I had gotten k or ka band from these highland park IL police they hide in the same spots it’s just been a while since I saw them sitting on those off ramps. Then I saw workers there so I proceeded to slow down but also at the same time I noticed a black car come up quickly behind me and I could tell it was a charger with the roof mounted low profile light bar. He pulled me over when it was safe to do so. Then proceed to ask me if I knew why he pulled me over. I didn’t confess but he claimed he got me for 73 in a 55 and that court appearance was required. I asked him to cut me some slack since I had a bad day (car has broken down in Chicago and I had just paid a decent amount to get it fixed). He would not cut me any slack and wrote me for the 73 in a 45 speeding in a construction zone with court appearance in a month required. He claimed a truck had been hit in the last few days too.

What can I do about this ticket, it clearly says radar on the ticket and I don’t think I was doing 73 when he came up behind me so I don’t think he paced me. My r1 also did not make a peep in the last 15 minutes and with over 10k miles on it I know I can trust it. I think his gun was out of tune and my r1 is segmented running city mode also on the older but trustworthy firmware. The first offense of speeding in a construction zone is a minimum of $375 and I don’t want it to go on my insurance. I also had a failure to reduce speed ticket when my car lost control in a snow storm on the I94. ILSP wouldn’t cut me any slack either even though my car went into the side of a semi truck trailer. I paid the fine and did the class while having 90 day supervision from not getting another ticket. Does anyone have any good advice? I know I was idiotic for all this But also I think it’s idiotic to have signs that don’t change when the workers are and aren’t present. And of course the conditions of the road etc.

Any video? Definitely going to need to lawyer up.

Also what does the ticket cite as the vehicle code offense?

Is there somewhere I can post the video in intermediate?
Code is ILCS 5/11 / Sec: 605.1 (a)

Don't mess around with this, get an attorney.
I’ll get a lawyer for sure but I hope he will request the radar gun certification and get the case tossed out of court if the radar gun was out of tune. Like I said there was no alert and my r1 usually never misses anything. Maybe the cop was using k band and since Im using K narrow it didn’t catch the radar? Maybe it wasn’t out of tune that much and the ticket will hold? I do wonder how likely it is it was out of tune that much...
Thanks!

He also cut you a HUGE break or was completely clueless and didn't cite you for 601.5 which is a misdemeanor.

either radar out of the segmented range you are running or it was laser... is your R1 still alerting to radar (falses or legit)? You should be able to find out during discovery which gun was used so you should be able to figure out if it was radar or laser used.

Yes my detector has been alerting to all the threats and falses (within the segged freq) in the past 6 or so months I’ve had it with no issues. The ticket has radar marked and lidar was not marked but that still doesn’t make me 100% if it was radar. There’s no place on the ticket for pacing to be checked nor do I think he could later change the claim to him pacing me.

I don't think the courts will give you much consideration for arguing that your radar detector didn't go off... this is serious enough for an attorney, who will know how best to proceed.

I agree and wouldn’t mention my radar detector at all. Calling a recommended lawyer as we speak.

1: Pick up phone.
2: Call lawyer.
Lawyer will recommend not mentioning C/Ms.

Sorry that happened. Same advice as everybody else, get a lawyer to help you reduce this to some other violation or get it dropped entirely. The one time hit for the lawyer's fees should be much lower than paying three years (in NC) of increased premiums and even potentially getting dropped by your insurance company.

Hopefully the lawyer can work some magic. If there was a truck hit in the last couple weeks you might not any slack at all from the prosecutor/court...
