So I’m running the NR DSP now to check out the new ARF and am having issues getting the audio to play from my phone’s speaker and not through the car stereo.

HFP of course will output audio through the car, but even when I have the app’s audio set to Speaker, when my iPhone is plugged in to my car for charging / Apple CarPlay, it also outputs audio through the car stereo. If the phone is unplugged, audio plays out of the phone speaker as desired.

Unless I want to stop using CarPlay or use a second phone for the NR DSP / ALP audio so I can maintain my lockouts, I can’t find a way to listen to the radio without it shutting off my music every. single. time. I get a radar alert.

Setting the audio to mix doesn’t do the trick. Same thing with disabling the option to mute the car radio during radar alerts.

Unfortunately when using CarPlay it forces your phone to pass all sounds via the connected device. You cant override this as its an apple thing. I would bet you cant get any apps sound to come out of the phone when connected.

That’s a bummer... How I wish the HW4 CPUs added a headphone jack so we didn’t have all these limitations running BT, a control pad, and speaker all over the same CPU port.

Ok, this might not help... When plugged in and on AppLe Car Play, and using a app like Audible, or whatever, I have to have the radio setting set to the iPhone/MP3/USB or whatever your car says for the digital wired input. Then the app sounds play through the car. Have you tried this?

is a PIA, if one wants to listen to XM, or something else on the car radio.

Have you considered upgrading to Android?
haha of course! Is Android able to do this specific thing though when running over Android Auto? or does all audio also get piped through into the vehicle stereo like with iOS?

i have my Audio Output set to "Default" and i have Audio Mix set to "Duck".

i'm using CarPlay and have everything going thru the stereo. i only listen to itunes (no live radio or XM so results may vary) but when i get alerts it will lower the music volume slightly until the alert stops and then the music resumes at normal volume.

i like that set up personally.

Yeah it should work find if you plan on listening to music coming from your phone. It's different if you want to listen to live radio or XM.

How's it different with, say, XM?

It may depend on the implementation of CarPlay or Android Auto support in the head unit. With Uconnect's Android Auto in my Dodge Charger, every audio source ducks for app audio, including XM and FM.

So what I'm looking for is to never have my radar detector mute my radio. Driving around with the NR DSP, I found it annoying to have my music keep getting muted every time I got a false alert. Ideally I want my music to always play and have my radar detector audio play over top of that, just like we have with a windshield mount radar detector that runs independently of the car stereo.

The issue with XM is if the audio is coming from another source besides the phone, the only thing the phone can do is stop the stereo's music and play its own audio instead. I haven't found a way to mix the audio and play both phone audio and radio/XM audio simultaneously so long as the phone is also going to play its audio through the car stereo.

There are apps that can oblige, but not for anything that isn't V1 or TMG. No one else is interested in supporting 3rd party developers.

Have had the same issue. Some alert comes in from iPhone via CarPlay and it stops playing Sirius XM and switches to iPhone audio. One solution is you could use the Sirius CM iOS app. But if it worked it, would chew through your data!
