Unication has issued a safety recall of the LiPo batteries that shipped in Unication G4 and G5 models between January 2016 and October 2017. Unication doesn't say why they issued the recall, but a quick search on youtube for Lipo Battery explosion should help clue you in to the potential dangers of under charged and or over charged LiPo batteries.

Check Unication's website for details on how to see if your device and battery is affected, and how to request the replacement.

Any info on which models that we use might be affected? All I read was special pagers.

The page indicates it is for G4 and G5 models.

October 9th, 2019: Unication USA, Inc has issued a voluntary recall of the Unication 2800mAh Lithium-Polymer batteries (model #: T65G428001-R) shipped in G4 & G5 P25 Voice Pagers from January 2016 through October 2017.

Is it me, or is it more than a coincidence that the recall was announced shortly after the battery trade-in offer expired? I traded in my old Li Po battery and got a new Li Ion battery for 50% off. That was a good deal, but I should have waited for the recall. Hindsight is always 20/20 though and I had no idea a recall was coming. At any rate, the new Li Ion has a lot better run time than the old Li Po. I had the Li Po battery for about two years though. Run time on the Li Po had decreased quite a bit after two years.

My battery was bulged out so I suspect it was a safety issue.

Definitely. In my opinion, LiPo batteries don't belong in devices that one would put in their pocket or leave in their hand constantly.
