Any guesses about new radar detectors coming out at SEMA or by the end of the year?

The end of the year is usually a pretty fun time of the year. We've got SEMA where new products are often announced, plus we're getting into the holiday season which is itself a time when we see new products being launched.

Any guesses as far as what's gonna be coming over the next few months? One of @PointerCone's recent posts got me thinking about this...

Radenso has been teasing something new for a few weeks, but they've already stated that they're not releasing any new products this year.

Maybe V1 will finally get parts in and release an updated V1? :p

With Escort, I'd personally love to see a windshield mount version of the Max Ci or Max Ci 360. That'd be pretty awesome. There's been rumors of a Redline EX 360, but based on what we've seen with the Redline EX, I'd rather see Escort go with a dual antenna M7 over a dual antenna M3+.

Maybe we'll see something new and interesting from Cobra, but they recently released the DP 360 and Road Scout.

Whistler usually goes to SEMA, but I don't remember the last time they had anything super exciting for the enthusiast.

With Uniden, they haven't had booths at SEMA before, but last year they had an R7 on hand which wound up getting announced at SEMA, though that wasn't the original plan.

So anyways, I'm just thinking aloud a bit. What do you guys think? What are you anticipating this year?

Even though Radenso won't be releasing a new RD this year, I fully anticipate that they will make their announcement at SEMA. I equate this to a new iPhone/Samsung/Pixel/Google/etc. announcement. Yes, the product won't be available for a few more months but that gives you time to build hype and forecast projected sales.

So as for SEMA, companies often display prototypes at the show as well as simple demos of new tech that they will eventually build into future products. I also sometimes see things like the Blackvue DR750X that was announced last year and still isn't even available today, almost a year later, haha. Companies also sometimes show off tech at shows like SEMA and CES just to gauge customer feedback. If it's good, they'll build a product based on that tech. If not, they'll just nix the idea before going to market.

So SEMA is definitely a great place to see potential future tech that may or may not come to fruition. With Radenso, if they do announce something at SEMA, I would fully expect them to eventually have a product based on that tech that we can buy down the road.

Exactly! I couldn't think of a better place for Radenso to pitch their concept. As much as I hate to admit it, there is a huge user base outside of RDF and SEMA would be a great place to gain that much needed exposure.

Oh and don't forget to sell preorders to finance manufacturing? I'm excited to see what comes out of Radenso. I think they have the biggest potential in the industry right now. That being said, since they are essentially starting from scratch, I wouldn't be surprised if their in-house developed unit had its fair share of growing pains.

Ooo, good call! I could definitely see them releasing some new tech there with the current push into the US market.

They're not on the list of exhibitors:

Looks to be just Radenso, Cedar (Escort/Cobra), and Whistler for RD companies.

Edit: What about new dashcams? Looks like BlackVue will be there among others...

That's true. Uniden was there last year, though they didn't have a booth. They grabbed a hotel room nearby and invited people in privately to discuss things such as new products, build relationships with their dealers, and so on. Many companies have invite-only rooms either on the showroom floor or elsewhere that aren't always listed on the map. I tried to walk into one of the dashcam ones before, but I didn't realize that was one of the private discussion rooms so they wouldn't let me in, haha.

Yeah I'm curious about that too. I have no idea what to expect, but hopefully there's some unexpected surprises. :)

@Vortex if you get me a press pass, I'll tote your camera and bag around for you. :happyanim:
haha, I've actually thought about that. I can bring extra people as part of my camera crew and get badges for them too. The show isn't open to the public so that could be a way to help get people in. Maybe I could set something up where people help me with camera stuff part time while getting to mozy about and explore other times. I'd have to reread the rules on how that works, haha. :D

I’d bet that manufacturers with any sense will hold back on back room photos of prototypes. You know why.

My bet is Radenso has something to show on the public floor. I hope we see something new from anybody, not just the same stuff wrapped in a new shell.

The ones that do this usually do so because the product isn't ready for public release/announcement though, right? So if you did learn about a new product/RD in one of these private rooms, you wouldn't be able to say anything about it until it was officially announced? Right? ;)

You definetly need a legit camera person to make more top notch videos.
Selfie mode don't cut it.

Whistler will have it's breakthrough series, with a better LNA and filter unit that matches the R-ProM. And the Radenso group could have something new to display matching to the current tech of 2019, which is more than needed to meet or exceed the current Top dog.

All these companies just need to send their products to that Bob guy. He will get the announcement out next week. :giggity:

I expect Radenso will announce their next big thing at SEMA.
I would love for Cedar to announce a windshield mounted Ci but they'll probably just show off their next wireless Solo detector to replace the one they just discontinued. Maybe they'll have another dashcam or something of the sort.
I'm guessing Whistler will have something but I haven't followed them close enough to have an educated guess of what.
Nothing from Uniden.

yea, when pigs fly,
I’m probably wrong... although Jon didn’t mention doing something like that in the past.
I’d like to hope it’s something along the lines of image recognition, or detecting high electronic magnet something-mabob(cb/scanner/radar/computer), but Escorts most like to have already patented that ;) lol
