I just traded up to 2016 Mercedes E350. given the tight spacing in the interior, I'm abandoning my V1 and just ordered an Escort Max 360 ci, along with the Mid City Engineering Integration module (to view info directly on the dash cluster).

This is my first custom install detector. Originally I had planned to only install the radar receivers and omit the laser shifters for the sake of being law abiding but apparently there's no laser detection if the shifters are not installed.

My gut instinct is to install the rear radar receiver in the interior (on the rear deck) but if I'm going to have to mount the shifters on the trunk lid, I might as well consider all options. Given that I have never installed or used a ci system, I appreciate all advice and pointers in every respect.

Anyone else install a ci system on a W212 (2010-2016) Mercedes?

Much appreciated.

First off, congrats on the new acquisition! Secondly, if you're going to install the CI system yourself, it would help if we had an idea of your skill level when it comes to panel removal and reinstallation as well as making connections and general wiring.

The good news is that you have really good locations for the shifters, both front and rear. The grille in the front is open and allows for the heads to hide fairly well and still get optimum performance. The license plate provision on the trunk lid is also a great location on this car and has plenty of extra room on the plate light lip to mount the jammers.

As for the radar heads, I would definitely mount them behind the bumpers front and rear. If you're going through the trouble of running wires back there anyway, take the extra time to remove that rear bumper and mount the radar properly. You might even be able to accomplish that without bumper removal. You'll still get great performance through the window, but there's no great way to make that look appealing.

We've installed over 100 CI systems over the years, and more than a few on similar Mercedes platforms. Feel free to PM me if you need some help beyond what we're able to give you in this thread.

thank you! Thanks for the info -much appreciated. I'm fairly confident in my abilities for panel removal and basic wiring. I grew up being a grease monkey. For my latest projects, I installed aftermarket stereo systems and did full HID retrofits on my old W203 and W211, so I have some experience dealing with panels, wiring, soldering and to some degree, tinkering with the CANBUS systems. I'm going to wait until I receive all the components and then I will likely bug you via pm. Thanks for the offer!
